Bad Boys of Romance Giveaway Hop

I don't know who first said you've gotta love the bad boy but for eons it seems to have been true. Personally I'm going to stick to romance bad boys from now on rather than real ones, the real life ones never seem to work out, not that I'm surprised about that. But a romance bad boy, that's a different story all together.

So what is it about a bad boy that attracts so many of us? The answer is...I don't know. Research often talks about women being attracted to the element of danger associated with a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. Theories of women wanting to rebel against society or family, opposites attracting and Florence Nightingale syndromes, where women need to save or fix whatever makes our bad boy the way he is abound. The theories may be true, as I said, I have know idea. I just know I like what I like and bad boys do it for me. It does pose some difficulty when writing romance though, especially when Florence Nightingale raises her ugly head.

While I was writing Finding Angel I became so attached to my villain that his role in the book changed significantly from the original story I'd plotted. In short, I redeem him somewhat. As I got to know him I couldn't do anything other than offer him a modicum of salvation. My villain,  Adrian Hastings is a crime boss, he's involved in some horrible activities but as the book progressed I learnt he had the capacity to love and, as he'd aged he'd grown, changed, even regretted some of his actions. Yes he was a villain, a bad boy, but there was something endearing about him.

If you'd like to decide about Adrian for yourself, enter the competition below to win a copy of Finding Angel. All you need to do is comment below and answer this question...Which "bad boy" revs your motor? Is it a hero or a villain or even a secondary character? Remember to include your email address when you comment.

Excerpt: Finding Angel

Angel woke with a start as she felt a hand run up her stocking-covered leg. She was just about to scream when a large hand covered her mouth, and she thought she saw the glint of steel out of the corner of her eye.
“Samuel,” she gasped in her semi awake state as the hand tightened over her mouth.
“Hello, Angel, you look particularly ravishing. I hope you wore that dress for me,” Adrian said, one hand still firmly over her mouth and the other climbing slowly up toward her thigh. “Do you promise me that you won’t scream if I take my hand away?”
Angel nodded beneath his grip, Adrian removed his hand from her mouth.
“You look incredibly tempting this morning.” Adrian smiled down at her. He ran his hand down the side of her face and neck before letting it roam around the cleavage at the top of her dress. Angel tried to sit up, attempting to push him away as she shimmied closer to the head of the bed.
“What are you doing here, Adrian?” Angel’s voice was flat and emotionless. She realised the lounge room light was on, casting a soft light into the bedroom. She had been sleeping so peacefully before his intrusion. “How did you get in here, and who is in the lounge room?”
“I used my key, and I’m here alone. I put the light on when I walked in, but you didn’t wake up. You were sleeping like a baby. I made myself a drink, had a look around, and decided that you were definitely the most interesting thing in this whole house. By the way, you haven’t said you’re happy to see me.” Adrian smirked.
“I’m not, and how do you have a key to my house?” Angel pushed his hand out from under her dress. “Stop touching me and tell me what you want,” she demanded as forcefully as she could.
Adrian stood up, removing his jacket and hanging it on the handle of the wardrobe. He walked around the other side of the bed and lay down next to her.
“I want many things from you, Angel, but mainly I want to talk.” He rolled onto one elbow to face her. “I want to say thank you for finding the information that Samuel had in regard to me. Did you read any of it before you called me?”
“No, Adrian, I just assumed when I saw pictures of you in the envelope that it must have been what you were looking for. I didn’t read any of the papers because I didn’t want to know anything about you. I have no intention of knowing anything in case you feel I may be some sort of threat. I happen to value my life,” Angel responded honestly.
“You are very wise. I knew you were more than a pretty face. The only problem is you didn’t give me everything that I wanted. You see, I am missing an accounts ledger, and Samuel had it before he passed away.” Adrian moved closer to Angel. The smell of his expensive aftershave tantalised her senses. If nothing else, Adrian always smelt delicious. “You don’t happen to know where that might be, do you?”
“I didn’t find any ledger. I gave you everything I found. Anything I didn’t give you is in garbage bags in Samuel’s bedroom.” Angel moved slightly, trying to extend the distance between Adrian and her. She’d be damned if she’d give into the urge to nuzzle into the crook of his neck just to take in more of his scent. Moving away was the best option to relieve the strange desire to do so. Not wanting to let her go anywhere, Adrian placed his arm around her waist and pulled her closer until he had her virtually underneath him.
“I collected that rubbish earlier tonight, just in case you overlooked something important while you were cleaning up.” He nuzzled his head into her neck, brushing against her hair with his face. “You do smell so nice. I’d rather fuck you than kill you, Angel. I need that ledger.”
Angel couldn’t believe he had just placed her right where she didn’t want to be, surrounded by the delicious smell of that aftershave that was now mixed with male body heat as he lay against her.
“I don’t have it, Adrian, and I would certainly rather be fucked than killed.” Angel knew it was a stupid thing to say, but she was starting to get anxious, and strangely aroused…Good God, she was never going to drink again. All she had to do was keep her wits about her. If she did the wrong thing, Adrian would kill her without even blinking. He was that kind of man.
“Take your time and give a little thought as to where it might be…I’m in no rush.” Adrian kissed the side of her neck before looking into her eyes. “Where would Samuel keep a ledger?”
Angel felt Adrian’s hand move from her waist upward, cupping her breast. He smiled at her as her nipple hardened under the tight bodice. His fingers flicked over the tiny bump a few times only moving away after he had elicited a reluctant little moan from Angel’s lips.
“Are you thinking about what I asked, Angel?” His hand left her breast and slid firmly down over her abdomen.
“Yes.” Angel hated the fact that he had aroused her. She reminded herself that she hated this man, feared him. She wanted nothing to do with him.

Alpha Male Blog Hop

Born That Way

I expect that over the next few days you will read all sorts of blogs about alpha males. I almost feel like I should use a capital ‘A’ when I type the word, much the same as I do when typing the word Dominant in relation to a Dom/me. I will however, refrain and stick with lower case. I love alpha males, I love writing about them, reading about them and meeting them in real life.

There are lots of words used to describe alpha males. Confident, dominant, fearless, driven, successful, self assured, the list goes on. I’ve certainly used a lot of them, after all, I write about alpha males in my books. The same words tend to repeat over and over again, so I decided to see if I could find descriptions I hadn’t thought of to blog about. However, while checking out the internet I discovered something really surprising. When you Google ‘alpha males’ there are a myriad of blogs and articles about how a man can become an alpha male.

Mmm…a man can become an alpha by following a few simple steps… Really?

I’ve always believed that alpha males were born that way, not taught to be that way. A man either had it or he didn’t. Apparently I was wrong. The internet has lists of alpha personality traits, explanations on how to and how not to behave as an alpha, techniques on incorporating these characteristics into a man’s life, thereby turning them into an alpha male. It begs the question though, can a man learn these techniques and actually pull it off or, would woman see straight through them and label them try-hards or posers?

I’ve certainly met men who appear to be dominant, in fact they may even state they are. They say and do all the right things, however, there’s just something missing in relation to the I-am-alpha vibe they portray. I now wonder… could these men actually be non-alphas in disguise? Men who know the techniques because they’ve read about them on the internet but just don’t have the natural ability or genetic make-up to convince us they are the real deal.

So can a man learn how to be an alpha or are Alpha males simply born that way? What do you think?

My blog hop giveaway: Win a PDF copy of Seducing a Cougar by commenting on this blog post(include you email address with the comment) and following my blog if you haven't already done so. Below is an excerpt from Seducing a Cougar to give you a sneak peak at the books Alpha male.

An excerpt from Seducing a Cougar.

It didn’t take a genius to ascertain Susan’s attraction to him. Her flushed skin and shallow breaths in response to his touch indicated such. What he didn’t understand was the obvious nervousness toward him. He hoped it would ease over time and put it down to the fact she wasn’t ready to enter into any sort of relationship just yet. After all, the separation from her husband was a fairly recent thing. She’d need time to recover, to sort her feelings out. Blake was prepared to give her that, but he also wanted to leave her in no doubt that when she was ready to move forward he was interested in being the man she moved forward with.
“It’s just over here on the right.” Susan indicated the driveway of her brother, John Dean’s home.
Blake would save the discussion that he was a partner at her brother’s law firm for another time. Tonight was about making an impression she wouldn’t easily forget. As Susan rummaged through her purse, presumably looking for her house keys, he exited the car and walked around to open the passenger door. As he escorted her to the entry of her flat, located at the side of the Dean’s home, he resisted the urge to lower his hand from the small of her back onto her lushly rounded ass. She was definitely a woman who had a bottom designed for spanking and one fleshy enough to mark nicely with a few strikes of his cane.
“Thank you for driving me home.” Susan spoke nervously as she fumbled to get the key into the lock. “I’m fine to take it from here.”
Blake stood close behind her, intentionally crowding her toward the door. He reached his hand over her shoulder and placed it over hers, assisting her trembling hand to successfully slide the key into the lock. He then tightened his grip on her fingers, preventing her from turning the key. She braced her free hand on the frame of the door as he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her firmly against his body.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t like me to tuck you into bed and kiss you goodnight, Susan?” He whispered the words into her ear and felt a shudder run through her body as he exhaled a slow stream of warm breath to caress her neck.
Susan shook her head. “I can’t.”
“I know, I heard you tell Justin at the club. You’re not ready.” Blake ran his hand upward over her midriff before cupping her breast. He felt the tightened bud of her nipple through the fabric, and pressed it into his palm as he gently squeezed her flesh.
Her breathy moan encouraged him, as did her head falling back to rest on his shoulder, and her bottom pressing onto the erection beneath his trousers as she arched against him. He removed his hand from over hers and swiftly positioned it to cup her mound, pressing her skirt between her legs and pulling her harder against the stiffness between his legs. He pinched the peaked nipple beneath her clothing as she began to squirm against the hand between her legs.
“Blake, why are you…” the low moan that rose from within her caused his cock to flinch with demand.  He’d made his point.
He moved both hands to rest firmly on her hips.
“I want you to remember who I am, Susan.” He ensured the tone of his voice was firm because he wanted her to know that he expected her to comply with his demand. “When you’re ready, I expect you to come for me, do you understand?”
“Yes.” Her breathless reply caused him to smile. So did the fact that she stood with her hands still braced against the door.
“That’s my good girl.” The sharp slap he placed on her ass as he prepared to walk away, caused her to squeal and spin around. The arousal in her eyes spoke an undeniable truth. “Yes, you like that don’t you?”
Susan didn’t need to say a word. He could see the answer written all over her horny body and her beautifully blushed face.

Vicariously Naughty

I must admit I haven't had a night of naughtiness for a while, yes I know, sad isn't it :( but I'm hoping that will change in the future.

The best thing about being an avid reader, as well as an author, is the fact I can read about other peoples naughty nights any time I want. All I have to do is pick up an erotic romance novel and I'm in another world. I don't have to worry if I've shaved my legs (or other areas). It doesn't matter if I'm wearing my flannaette nightshirt which is not sexy at all. In fact, I could be having the worst bad hair, or bad mood day of all and it doesn't matter. I still get to be vicariously naughty through whatever characters appear on the pages, or e-reader before me.

For me the more erotic the story the better and that's how I like to write as well. I try to let my mind run wild and if the sex isn't limited to the normal places and positions then all the better. The erotic acts don't have to be limited to sex. Sensual encounters can be just as erotic as penetration, and I try to include those moments in my books as well. In Playing Jax, the second novel in the Wylde Shore Series, I included an intimate shaving scene between the two main characters, Steve and Rhia. I hope readers enjoy it as much as the down and dirty fucking that the two of them get into. For me, including that scene bought a new aspect to the characters, it added to the journey of sexual exploration Rhia was engaged in and demonstrated a tender side to Steve's dominance.

There are a plethora of great erotic romances on the market now and finding something that allows the reader to experience new worlds and fantasies is an added bonus of that fact. Hopefully my books and many others serve as inspiration to add a little erotic play to many relationships.

I want to thank Naughty Nights Press, one of the publishers of great steamy books, for allowing me to participate in their one year anniversay blog hop. Don't forget to check out the other participants by clicking on the blog hop link at the side of this post. Over thirty participants all have something to give away as part of the celebration and I know we all like to get something for free.

If you would like to read Steve and Rhia's story just click this link to purchase it from the Bookstrand website. You can also find my books on Amazon and at other e-book retailers.
For your chance to win an ebook copy of Playing Jax leave a comment on this blog before midnight on the 1st July, along with an email address and you'll go in the draw to win. The winners name will be added to the end of this post on July 3rd and the winner will be contacted via email by me letting them know they've won.

Happy 1st Birthday Naughty Nights Press

Roses and Chocolates Blog Hop

I loved the idea of being involved with the Roses and Chocolates blog hop because I very fond of both items. My trepidation surfaced when I found out the hop included writing a blog about a memorable time when I was given either chocolates or roses, that's when I came unstuck.

You see, even though I've reached the wonderful age of forty-six, I haven't really been given either item under circumstances that you'd call memorable. Yes, as Linda Ronstadt once sang...poor, poor, pitiful me. I have been given flowers, generally after someone died or as an apology from a lover after a disagreement. As for chocolates I don't generally get those at all. So, what am I doing wrong? Who knows, maybe I need one of the men from my novels, a man who wants to woo me and tell me how special I am with not only his words but gifts and gestures of love, like cooking dinner.

In my most recent novella, Mark, the hero is a gift giver, flowers, perfume etc. In Playing Jax, my second novel due to be released mid May there is actually a discussion about what flowers mean and why men give them to women.

I've decided that since flowers appear as a theme in both my latest works it must be saying something about me. I think I want flowers. I want a man who gives them freely without a hidden agenda or ulterior motive. In my next relationship I will determine to find a man who does just that. Maybe then, if the roses and chocolates blog happens again, I'll have a memorable story to tell.

Blog Giveaway:

Win a PDF copy of my latest Cougar Novella, Healing a Cougar's Heart. Enjoy an excerpt from Hearing a Cougar's Heart.

The knock on her door brought her back from her thoughts. Flowers greeted her when she answered the door, in fact, a huge bouquet of the most beautiful flowers she’d ever seen. She eagerly accepted the delivery. No one ever sent her flowers. For a moment she wondered if she should have read the card before the delivery girl left. What if they weren’t meant for her? No, the young woman had asked for Isabelle, so they couldn’t be a mistake.

She got a large vase from the cupboard, filled it with water and−hey presto−a stunning display of color sat in the centre of her dining table. She unpinned the card and sat down on the sofa. Her hands shook as she stared at the little envelope. It definitely said Isabelle O’Connor. She took a fortifying slurp of coffee and then pulled the card from its white wrapping.

Let me show you how an honorable man treats a gorgeous lady. Please come to dinner with me tonight. Mark Dean.

She stared at the card, re-read it, placed it on the coffee table, stared at it some more, and picked it up again. His mobile phone number was printed under his name. Her mind raced to understand what it could mean. Well, apart from the obvious “have dinner with me” bit. Surely he didn’t think she was gorgeous? If anything, that should be a word applied to him, not her. She reached for her phone and began to dial.

Gorgeous. If that’s what he thought of her, it was an added bonus. Dinner with the man who had filled her dreams last night was a definite yes, please.
