Back on Top - A Wylde Shore Novella

With the impending release of Passion, Pleasure, Pain: An anthology of Dominance and submission on February 14, it's time for some teasers from my contribution to the book, Back on Top - A Wylde Shore Novella.

Meg and Barry are regular secondary characters in my Wylde Shore series, they've been there since book one. As a happily married couple, the regular romance story rules - boy meets girl and falls in love - don't apply. That doesn't mean they can't have their own story and the Passion, Pleasure, Pain anthology offered that opportunity.

In Back on Top, Meg's growing interest in BDSM could have a negative affect on the marriage. That is, unless Barry can find a way to overcome his issues with the lifestyle, and incorporate a bit of kinkiness into their lives.

Barry isn't the only one with issues about BDSM. For a woman who's use to being in control of everything, including the relationship, Meg faces huge changes if BDSM is going to work for them.

If Meg and Barry are to work out their issues they're going to need a little help from their friends. Ash Reynolds is just one of the Wylde Shore crowd that makes an appearance in the novella.

Royalties from the sale of this anthology go to the family of author Doris O'Connor.
We love you and miss you. RIP Doris.

Happy 2019 - No resolutions, just some strategic planning.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and as we race toward New Year's Eve I hope you have a great time. I know I will :)
To help celebrate the holiday season I decided to discount my books. The sale started on Dec 21st to concludes Jan 4th. All my self published ebooks are reduced to 99 cents on most sites. So, if there’s a title you’ve been wanting to read and haven’t had the spare cash, now is your time to grab a bargain.

I know the new year is a time for resolutions that we often end up breaking but for me it's a time to plan. So, here's what I'll be doing for the first half of the new year.
Two new releases are planned for early 2019. Meg and Barry from the Wylde Shore series have their own novella coming out in an anthology in April. The story is finished and edits will start early in 2019. I loved writing this book, Meg and Barry might only be minor characters in the Wylde Shore books but they’re a great couple and it was a pleasure bringing their story to life.
The second book set for release in the first half of 2019 is Restoring His Soul, Mercenary Heat 2. This is Nik’s story and as well as seeing him find love we also get to see how he overcomes the trauma of the teams last mission. For those of you who’ve read Tempting Marcus and Her Captured Heart you’ll remember the difficult emotional position Nik was in after being undercover for a year. He’s not out of danger yet, though. The past always has a way of rearing it’s ugly head.
As for the second half of 2019 there will be another Hot in the City book coming out and if all goes to plan Mercenary Heat 3, but more on those another time.
Well that’s it for now, I’ll have more from the cave for you shortly.

Foster an Author Week

I’m currently participating in an amazing event running from October 22nd to 26th. It’s called Foster an Author week and organized by three amazing women over on Facebook who decided a few years ago to hook authors up with bloggers in a mutual love and promotion fest.
This is my first year with the event but my blogger is a three year veteran. I asked Shirley, from Shirley’s bookshelf, to provide some information about how she became a book blogger and FB page owner where she promotes all things romance. Her page is amazing, I’ve already found some exciting new authors by checking out her posts. I hope after reading Shirley’s story you’ll visit her page and share some love by liking and following Shirley’s bookshelf.
Take it away, Shirley ðŸ™‚
Bookshelf Logo
I fell in love with reading when I was in the fourth grade and read Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder and have spent my life reading whenever I had a free moment.
shirley with booksIn 2012, when everyone was coming down off the high of reading the Fifty Shades series, I stumbled across a blog post about a soon to be released series and learned that one of the authors was a native of my home state, Pennsylvania, and also a man. I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to see what a male writer could give readers in a predominantly female dominated industry. I was not disappointed, and shared his work on my personal FB page. Of course, once you’ve purchased books on Amazon, they make suggestions for other authors/books you might also like. I came across a series by a western romance writer who included historical facts about her home state of Texas in her books and they greatly appealed to the history geek in me. And, because I wanted others to hear about her work, I shared on FB. Well, some friends and family weren’t appreciating some of the things I was sharing, and I can understand that, so in May of 2013 I set up my own page, Shirley’s Bookshelf, where I could share whatever I wanted and people who liked what they saw could follow me and my family and friends didn’t have “suggestive” images showing up in their newsfeed. Initially I simply shared what I was reading at the time, and cover reveals, releases and sales for authors I followed.
In 2014, I attended my first ever book signing, where I met new to me authors, and had myself added to their mailing lists. I started to get invites to their book release events, and it was then that I learned about bloggers who also coordinated events for authors, and I signed myself up for their mailing lists as well. 2014, into 2015 is when I began to share more than just authors whose work I’ve read, and it was then that my page grew from the maybe 200 followers I had at the time, to the 2700 I have now. For some, that’s not many, but I’m happy when I introduce even just one person to an author they had not heard of previously.
I have had the opportunity to attend at least three signings each year since 2015, and the authors whose work I share on my page has continued to grow. I have been privileged to meet authors from around the country (a few from outside the USA), and from many different walks of life. Some of them have become treasured friends, and I feel blessed that they’ve come into my life and that I’ve had experiences with them that I might not have had otherwise.
I really enjoy spreading the word about author’s work and I especially feel great satisfaction when I’ve introduced a reader to a “new to them” author and they find a new favorite writer.
Shirley resides in Central Pennsylvania, USA, with her husband and fur babies Sugar and Maya. She is the proud mom to a son and daughter, and recently celebrated the 1stbirthday of her grandson. Her Monday through Friday, nine to five job is working as the executive assistant to the department that provides services to students with special needs at an educational agency, and evenings are spent with her family and spreading the word about her favorite books and authors.

Hot Seat Welcomes - Diane Demetre

The author hot seat specials are designed to help readers get to know both popular and up and coming authors a little better. The questions are broken into sections - About your writing, about you, fun stuff and finally. Some of the questions are easy, other may need a little more thought and some may cause our author friends to hesitate before answering—still, they all answer.

Today we welcome Erotic romance author, Diane Demetre, to the hot seat. he's telling us about her new book and answering the tricky questions, there's also a fantastic giveaway from her at the end of the post. So let's get started.

Tell us about your latest book. What was your inspiration for writing it, is it part of an ongoing series, the characters, the genre etc?

Dance to a Gypsy Beat is the third book in my erotic romance Dance of Love series. Although all the books in the series are stand-alone titles, there is a familial thread tying them together which adds a deeper dimension to the stories. The books in this series were voted Luminosity Publishing Readers’ Choice for Best Books and Best Covers for 2015 and 2016.

About your writing:

How many books have you written during your career so far and which is your favorite?

I’ve written and had published three erotic romances. My fourth book is romantic suspense which hasn’t been published yet and is probably my favourite to date. I’m hoping to see it out later this year.
Have any of your books received negative reviews and how did you handle the situation?

I had one, but I ignored it. You can always tell whether bad reviews are legitimate or not. If a reader is sincere about their comment, you can see it by the way they write their review. But mostly, negative reviews are from people who admit to not even finishing the book or from people who made the wrong choice in the first place by choosing your book. For example, why would someone choose erotic romance if they get offended by red hot sex scenes?

Do you believe in writer’s block and if so, how do you overcome it?

I haven’t experienced writer’s block, maybe because I write what comes to me rather than thinking what to write. I lean into my inspiration and wait for it to guide me. I think writer’s block is something created from impatience. The key is to trust the muse and follow her lead.

What is the one genre you would never write and why?

Not so much a genre, but I can only write in the ‘light’. I can’t write about dark themes and have turned down publishing offers to write in the ‘dark.’

Have you ever written a book that you’ve regretted publishing and why?

Not yet.

If a reader said they wanted to write a book, what advice would you give them?

Go ahead, but be prepared to sacrifice lots and lots and lots of time.

About you:

Tell us what a typical day in your life is like?

Up early, take the puppies for a walk, meditate, go to the gym, yoga or dance class, do a couple of hours on my other business, then write all afternoon, one hour for dinner, then back in the office to write for a few hours at night.
What sort of things put you in a bad mood?
Being too hard on myself.

Do you have a bucket list and what’s one thing you still want to do that you haven’t done?

Fly into outer space on Virgin Gallatica

What makes you laugh?

Silly things my husband says, loving things my puppies do and the joy of being alive.

What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?

I talked far too long in my wedding speech.

Do you like to read and what are you reading at the moment?

I love reading. At the moment, I’m reading The Road Back by Liz Harris

If you couldn’t write anymore, what would you do instead?

But why couldn’t I write anymore? Unless I’m brain-dead, I can write J

Fun Stuff:

If you could go out with one famous person who would it be and why?

Jesus Christ… I want to hear his story told his way.

Do you have a habit that drives your partner/friends/family nuts and what is it?

Being bossy

In your opinion, what makes a person attractive?

Sense of humour

What is the strangest food you’ve ever eaten?

Raw snails in China… I spat them out once I felt the wiggle

Would you rather have a classic 1969 convertible Mustang or have the use of a beach side condo any time you want?

Beach side condo. I can’t write in the convertible

And finally:

Would you rather survive an apocalyptic event (yes, even a zombie apocalypse) or die instantly without knowing what happened to your family and friends?

Die… because we’ll all be on the other side anyway. Then we get to start all over again J

She writes sensual adult love stories with a twist, featuring empowered heroines who live life to the fullest on their terms, much like the author herself.

Diane weaves the magical divine feminine through her stories... perhaps in the guise of an accidental meeting with a magnificent stranger, a crazy French tarot card reader or the voice of the Goddess in the mind of the female protagonist. The Dance of Love series consists of three steamy, stand-alone, erotic romance titles with red hot ratings. Her debut novel, Dancing Queen was voted Luminosity Publishing’s Best Book and Best Cover for 2015, while Tiny Dancer and Dance to a Gypsy Beat were voted Best Book and Best Cover for 2016.

Reviews:
“…fast paced suspenseful romance to enjoy, if you like a high heat level! There is a beautiful chemistry between Charlotte and Frank! They can't live together, however, they cannot stay away either! Their relationship is complicated! Frank is a complex character, and because he suffered a terrible childhood, he is still fighting his demons…Guarding His Anchor is very well written with an amazing plot and story line! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an erotic read! ~Nicole, Amazon

Excerpt © Kacey Hammell, 2017

Charlie closed her eyes and leaned against the door. Tonight had resolved nothing. She’d tried to let Neal down easy, but everything she’d said had gone over his fucking head. Confusion rioted in her skull, throbbing non-stop.
A shift of movement caught her attention, startling her. She opened her eyes and lifted her head, standing tall, on the defense.
Oh, for crying out loud!
All she needed tonight was Frank Shaw in her house, staring at her with anger spitting fire from his eyeballs.
But there he was, eyeing her open collar and cleavage, fists bunched at his sides.
Frustration, sexual and otherwise thanks to him showing up when she least expected, curled around her like molten lava spilling from a volcano.
If he wanted a fight, he’d come to the right place.
“What the hell are you doing sneaking into my house?” she demanded, stomping toward him.
“Calm down. Vikki called, asked me to hang some fucking curtains. She said you were at the bar.”
“Can’t you think up a better excuse than that?”
His eyes roamed over her from head to toe. Damn that spark in his eyes when he gazed at her like that. Anger turned to potent hunger in seconds flat, watching her as if she were the prey and he the hunter … She swallowed hard.
“If I’d known you were home and … busy, I wouldn’t have bothered. Vikki said the back door was open.”
“I’ll talk to her about that.” Charlie sighed, then walked into the kitchen. “Her room is across the hall, last door on the right.”
Undeterred, he followed her. “Hot date, huh?”
“None of your business.” He was the very last person in the world she wanted to discuss Neal with.
He leaned on the island in the center of the room. “I guess Vikki wasn’t even aware you had a date tonight.”
No doubt Vikki didn’t cared anyway. She was Team Charlie and Frank, and Charlie wouldn’t be surprised if her pal had planned the whole thing. Hang curtains, indeed. At this time of night? Without running it past the owner, her roommate? Charlie suspected Vikki was up to no good.
“Doesn’t matter.” Charlie put the last of the wine in the fridge, grabbed a cloth, and cleaned the counters. “You can do it tomorrow when I’m at work. Good-night.” Focused on one spot, she scrubbed hard, hoping he’d take the suggestion.
“You look beautiful.” His soft comment skimmed along her ear as he moved in behind her.
“Frank, don’t. I just had another guy here, for heaven’s sake.”
“Doesn’t matter. It sure didn’t end the way he thought. I know when you’ve been fucked good and satisfied and when you’re not.”

Leigh Ann MacDonald values love and loyalty above all else. When Rick denies their attraction, he deals a callous blow to her tender heart, but their search for the little girl with no home brings them back together. Their passion grows, but when frustration mounts, can their love survive a race against time? Terror, multiplying obstacles, and a search for a missing girl—it’s time to call in Dark Horse Inc.

Excerpt
When gunshots barked right outside the door, she dropped like a stone to the ground. She had no idea what caused the commotion, but she wanted nothing to do with it or any stray bullets. When the door opened and closed just a moment later, she held her breath. Fear sent her heart racing, fighting to get out of her chest.
Then she heard two magical words.
“Fuck. Me.”
It wasn’t the words so much as the weak, rasping voice that she recognized. Before her brain could tell her mouth to stop and be cautious, quiet, the stupid orifice opened.
“Rick?” For all she knew, she might be imagining things. She struggled to move, but in her haste, she fell.
Footsteps rushed over and then big hands were on her, turning her until she sat on her backside. Then in the murky darkness, she heard the voice that she’d worried might be gone forever. Rick’s. “Thank Christ. Are you okay?” She wanted to sob with relief, wanted desperately to wrap her arms around him and crush him to her.
Yet, she couldn’t. She was as helpless as a turtle on its back.
“I’m fine. Please tell me you have a knife?” Her head buzzed with a hundred questions, but their situation went above and beyond dire.
Low, a little bit gravely and a lot tired, he spoke into her ear. “Yeah. I do. Don’t move.” She ached to lean closer and absorb his presence, his everything. He cupped her ankles and examined the ties around her ankles.
His hands shook as he pulled out his knife.
“Rick. I—I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. Your leg? I—”
“Not now. And it’s not your fault. Never. Let’s concentrate on getting out of here alive. Okay?” He sounded so tired, utterly drained of his usual strength. He should be in a hospital bed, not running a Dark Horse rescue operation.
Speaking of which… Something didn’t add up.
“Rick. Where are the rest of the crew?” It might be Rick’s newly formed team, but considering the shape he was in, she didn’t think Trent would let him participate in a rescue mission. She might have only known him for a few months, but she knew enough about Trent Dawson to understand he would lock Rick down if he wasn’t up to a job.
His hands trembled on her legs. Alarmed, she looked at him closer. Was it the yellow tinted light casting the sickly hue to his skin? When sweat beaded on his forehead she feared it wasn’t. His breaths were short and shallow. He didn’t look up to walking out of the room on his own steam.
Not to mention her overprotective brother Joe who, at the minimum, would be right in the thick of things, if not barging in and taking over. Something stank to high heaven.
“Sweetheart, don’t move.” Despite the noticeable tremble in his hands, he positioned the blade with precision beneath the tie.
“Yeah. You already said that. What’s going on?” When he wouldn’t meet her eyes, her stomach sank.
His only response was to cut her bonds loose. A million pins and needles stabbed her legs. An excruciating rush of feeling returned to her lower limbs. It was all she could do not to cry out. The trembling in her muscles made Rick’s hands look like immovable granite. He sat the knife down and, starting at her ankles, tried to massage some feeling back into her legs.
Outside the room, one voice rose above the others. The one who’d taken charge and seemed the most capable had returned. “What the hell is going on here? Give me that fucking gun.”
All the other voices started talking at once, spilling a tangled story.
“Something’s up. The door to the utility room is locked. It was unlocked when I got here. I found the key. Don’t let anyone out, nobody fucking move until I get the lights back on. Not a fucking millimeter.”
“We gotta go, babe. We’re sitting ducks.”
“Okay.” The only thing she knew was that she had to trust Rick’s abilities.
He considered the window then he looked back to her. “It’ll be a tight fit, but I think we can make it.”
