Alpha Male Blog Hop

Born That Way

I expect that over the next few days you will read all sorts of blogs about alpha males. I almost feel like I should use a capital ‘A’ when I type the word, much the same as I do when typing the word Dominant in relation to a Dom/me. I will however, refrain and stick with lower case. I love alpha males, I love writing about them, reading about them and meeting them in real life.

There are lots of words used to describe alpha males. Confident, dominant, fearless, driven, successful, self assured, the list goes on. I’ve certainly used a lot of them, after all, I write about alpha males in my books. The same words tend to repeat over and over again, so I decided to see if I could find descriptions I hadn’t thought of to blog about. However, while checking out the internet I discovered something really surprising. When you Google ‘alpha males’ there are a myriad of blogs and articles about how a man can become an alpha male.

Mmm…a man can become an alpha by following a few simple steps… Really?

I’ve always believed that alpha males were born that way, not taught to be that way. A man either had it or he didn’t. Apparently I was wrong. The internet has lists of alpha personality traits, explanations on how to and how not to behave as an alpha, techniques on incorporating these characteristics into a man’s life, thereby turning them into an alpha male. It begs the question though, can a man learn these techniques and actually pull it off or, would woman see straight through them and label them try-hards or posers?

I’ve certainly met men who appear to be dominant, in fact they may even state they are. They say and do all the right things, however, there’s just something missing in relation to the I-am-alpha vibe they portray. I now wonder… could these men actually be non-alphas in disguise? Men who know the techniques because they’ve read about them on the internet but just don’t have the natural ability or genetic make-up to convince us they are the real deal.

So can a man learn how to be an alpha or are Alpha males simply born that way? What do you think?

An excerpt from Seducing a Cougar.

It didn’t take a genius to ascertain Susan’s attraction to him. Her flushed skin and shallow breaths in response to his touch indicated such. What he didn’t understand was the obvious nervousness toward him. He hoped it would ease over time and put it down to the fact she wasn’t ready to enter into any sort of relationship just yet. After all, the separation from her husband was a fairly recent thing. She’d need time to recover, to sort her feelings out. Blake was prepared to give her that, but he also wanted to leave her in no doubt that when she was ready to move forward he was interested in being the man she moved forward with.
“It’s just over here on the right.” Susan indicated the driveway of her brother, John Dean’s home.
Blake would save the discussion that he was a partner at her brother’s law firm for another time. Tonight was about making an impression she wouldn’t easily forget. As Susan rummaged through her purse, presumably looking for her house keys, he exited the car and walked around to open the passenger door. As he escorted her to the entry of her flat, located at the side of the Dean’s home, he resisted the urge to lower his hand from the small of her back onto her lushly rounded ass. She was definitely a woman who had a bottom designed for spanking and one fleshy enough to mark nicely with a few strikes of his cane.
“Thank you for driving me home.” Susan spoke nervously as she fumbled to get the key into the lock. “I’m fine to take it from here.”
Blake stood close behind her, intentionally crowding her toward the door. He reached his hand over her shoulder and placed it over hers, assisting her trembling hand to successfully slide the key into the lock. He then tightened his grip on her fingers, preventing her from turning the key. She braced her free hand on the frame of the door as he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her firmly against his body.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t like me to tuck you into bed and kiss you goodnight, Susan?” He whispered the words into her ear and felt a shudder run through her body as he exhaled a slow stream of warm breath to caress her neck.
Susan shook her head. “I can’t.”
“I know, I heard you tell Justin at the club. You’re not ready.” Blake ran his hand upward over her midriff before cupping her breast. He felt the tightened bud of her nipple through the fabric, and pressed it into his palm as he gently squeezed her flesh.
Her breathy moan encouraged him, as did her head falling back to rest on his shoulder, and her bottom pressing onto the erection beneath his trousers as she arched against him. He removed his hand from over hers and swiftly positioned it to cup her mound, pressing her skirt between her legs and pulling her harder against the stiffness between his legs. He pinched the peaked nipple beneath her clothing as she began to squirm against the hand between her legs.
“Blake, why are you…” the low moan that rose from within her caused his cock to flinch with demand.  He’d made his point.
He moved both hands to rest firmly on her hips.
“I want you to remember who I am, Susan.” He ensured the tone of his voice was firm because he wanted her to know that he expected her to comply with his demand. “When you’re ready, I expect you to come for me, do you understand?”
“Yes.” Her breathless reply caused him to smile. So did the fact that she stood with her hands still braced against the door.
“That’s my good girl.” The sharp slap he placed on her ass as he prepared to walk away, caused her to squeal and spin around. The arousal in her eyes spoke an undeniable truth. “Yes, you like that don’t you?”
Susan didn’t need to say a word. He could see the answer written all over her horny body and her beautifully blushed face.

  6. That's an interesting question, and I can see it from both sides. I think that in most cases Alphas are born, but that there are also situations where Alphas come into thast status through ordeal and circumstance.

  8. I would love to think that they can learn it, because it would mean there is hope for my hubby! However I will admit that they are probably born that way. Maybe for some it is there but hidden and it just needs to be nurtured or a circumstance brings it out.

  12. Great excerpt. I think that a male is born that way, although you can teach him to assert his alphaness I think that he has to have something inside him already to do that.

  13. I'm not sure how to answer that question, but I agree that there does seem to be a difference between guys who naturally act in an 'alpha' way and those who perform the right steps but don't quite seem to get there.

  14. I think it can be both, I think most are born that way but I think also that sometimes the circumstances in their lives make them that way as well.

  15. Like others, I think Alplhas are either born with the tendencies and develop through life circumstances. Maybe someone can become an Alpha through knowing 'the rules', but if it's not a true belief in themselves and those traits it will never ring true.

  17. I definitely think being an alpha is more of a natural thing. Even if you learn how to act like an alpha if it isn't really who you are I don't think it counts.

  18. Most of the traits of an alpha are inborn. Especially that doggone stubborn streak! They can learn Alpha mannerisms to show case their natural personality, but I think it's more born than made.

  19. I think that a little of the alpha trait is in the genes, but feel that upbringing plays a large part. Role models that cross your path have a huge influence.

  21. Why I love Alpha Males is no real surprise! The perfect Alpha Male for me could be a Vampire, a Scottish Laird, an English Rogue/Gentleman, a Werewolf or Shape-shifter, or a Knight. He’s the rogue who thinks he can’t be reformed into a gentleman. He’s the rough and scarred Scottish laird that has a heart of gold. He’s the werewolf or shape-shifter that needs to heal an aching heart because it took him years to find his true mate. He’s the vampire who has waited decades for that special someone’s blood to sing to him and wake him up. And he’s the knight who can defeat the enemy with a quick swing of his sword, but can’t see the love in front of his face. My Alpha Male has eyes that can see into your soul and are as blue as the sea, or as black as a storm. He’s tall and brooding. His heart can enfold you into its grasp and make you fall in love when he gives it to you freely and completely. He is protective and passionate. In the end he is the one that makes your heart jump and butterflies fly in your stomach, and still kiss you until your legs melt!

  25. While I think that some are just naturally that way. I think mostly they are shaped from a very early age. Things that have happened to them, the things they have been taught as they were growing up have shaped them and made them the alphas they are.

  36. GFC-Reviews By Molly

Jack Gordon from Liz Crowe's REALTOR series rocks!

Alpha males are the best….strong, independent, fiercely protective, but on the inside they are nothing but a big ol’ teddy bear! I love the way their mouths talk filthy, but their eyes portray their sensitive sweet. They can be rough and tough in the bedroom, but still have the gentle caress of an attentive and protective lover. It's all in the heart.....alpha males are the best!

  46. Thank you all for commenting on the blog and being part of the Alpha Male Blog Hop. Vanessa is the winning comment on this and she has been notified of her win.

I think from your comments the jury is still out on whether Alphas are born that way, I certainly agree with some of you that circumstances can prompt a man to develop alpha tendencies in life. Once thing is clear for the comments though, we all love our Alpha males.

Hop to see you all again at the next hop.
