Foster an Author Week

I’m currently participating in an amazing event running from October 22nd to 26th. It’s called Foster an Author week and organized by three amazing women over on Facebook who decided a few years ago to hook authors up with bloggers in a mutual love and promotion fest.
This is my first year with the event but my blogger is a three year veteran. I asked Shirley, from Shirley’s bookshelf, to provide some information about how she became a book blogger and FB page owner where she promotes all things romance. Her page is amazing, I’ve already found some exciting new authors by checking out her posts. I hope after reading Shirley’s story you’ll visit her page and share some love by liking and following Shirley’s bookshelf.
Take it away, Shirley ðŸ™‚

I fell in love with reading when I was in the fourth grade and read Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder and have spent my life reading whenever I had a free moment.
shirley with booksIn 2012, when everyone was coming down off the high of reading the Fifty Shades series, I stumbled across a blog post about a soon to be released series and learned that one of the authors was a native of my home state, Pennsylvania, and also a man. I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to see what a male writer could give readers in a predominantly female dominated industry. I was not disappointed, and shared his work on my personal FB page. Of course, once you’ve purchased books on Amazon, they make suggestions for other authors/books you might also like. I came across a series by a western romance writer who included historical facts about her home state of Texas in her books and they greatly appealed to the history geek in me. And, because I wanted others to hear about her work, I shared on FB. Well, some friends and family weren’t appreciating some of the things I was sharing, and I can understand that, so in May of 2013 I set up my own page, Shirley’s Bookshelf, where I could share whatever I wanted and people who liked what they saw could follow me and my family and friends didn’t have “suggestive” images showing up in their newsfeed. Initially I simply shared what I was reading at the time, and cover reveals, releases and sales for authors I followed.
In 2014, I attended my first ever book signing, where I met new to me authors, and had myself added to their mailing lists. I started to get invites to their book release events, and it was then that I learned about bloggers who also coordinated events for authors, and I signed myself up for their mailing lists as well. 2014, into 2015 is when I began to share more than just authors whose work I’ve read, and it was then that my page grew from the maybe 200 followers I had at the time, to the 2700 I have now. For some, that’s not many, but I’m happy when I introduce even just one person to an author they had not heard of previously.
I have had the opportunity to attend at least three signings each year since 2015, and the authors whose work I share on my page has continued to grow. I have been privileged to meet authors from around the country (a few from outside the USA), and from many different walks of life. Some of them have become treasured friends, and I feel blessed that they’ve come into my life and that I’ve had experiences with them that I might not have had otherwise.
I really enjoy spreading the word about author’s work and I especially feel great satisfaction when I’ve introduced a reader to a “new to them” author and they find a new favorite writer.
Shirley resides in Central Pennsylvania, USA, with her husband and fur babies Sugar and Maya. She is the proud mom to a son and daughter, and recently celebrated the 1stbirthday of her grandson. Her Monday through Friday, nine to five job is working as the executive assistant to the department that provides services to students with special needs at an educational agency, and evenings are spent with her family and spreading the word about her favorite books and authors.

Hot in the City News

My Hot in the City Series has been out for a few years now and due to other writing tasks getting in the way, I’ve been neglecting my much loved hot, sexy, short, reads range. Well, no longer. This week I  finished writing the next novella in the series, Fueling the Fire. At least I think that’s what I’m calling it. Lol. With my other books I’ve never started talking about the book without having the title set in stone and without a definitive release date set. So, this is all a bit new and nerve racking for me. Anyway, I’m going with Fueling the Fire for now and the release date is TBA.

Fueling the Fire is John and Trudy’s story. As some of you may know they are the only couple who started the series already in a loving relationship. So how can I give them their own story you ask? Well, relationships aren’t perfect. We all go through ups and downs and if a couple isn’t careful the relationship can end if it’s not nurtured. Hence, this novella finds the couples marriage in a rut and if something doesn’t give, everything they’ve built over the last nineteen years could end.
That’s all the teaser you’re getting at this time. ðŸ™‚
But don’t despair, there’s more Hot in the City News.
I’m releasing the first four novellas in the series as an e-bundle and it’s also going to print. Yep, you heard me correctly. Four novellas in one place and at a discounted price. So that’s more bang for your reader buck. If you haven’t read any of my Hot, Short, Sexy, Read range then this will be a great place to start.
The bundle releases on October 2nd and is currently available for pre-sale. Teaser and buy links are listed below.
Enjoy.

Resisting Love, Bk 2

Kenzie ended things with Justin when she realized their affair was becoming something more than hot, casual sex. That left Justin with only one option. Win Kenzie back, even if it means playing dirty to secure her love.

Sensual Healing, Bk 3

All four novellas in this book feature M/F romantic pairings. All stories contain explicit sex scenes and some swearing. Only book 4, Submitting to Temptation, describes a couple in a D/s relationship, with light BDSM scenes.

Excerpt
When gunshots barked right outside the door, she dropped like a stone to the ground. She had no idea what caused the commotion, but she wanted nothing to do with it or any stray bullets. When the door opened and closed just a moment later, she held her breath. Fear sent her heart racing, fighting to get out of her chest.
Then she heard two magical words.
“Fuck. Me.”
It wasn’t the words so much as the weak, rasping voice that she recognized. Before her brain could tell her mouth to stop and be cautious, quiet, the stupid orifice opened.
“Rick?” For all she knew, she might be imagining things. She struggled to move, but in her haste, she fell.
Footsteps rushed over and then big hands were on her, turning her until she sat on her backside. Then in the murky darkness, she heard the voice that she’d worried might be gone forever. Rick’s. “Thank Christ. Are you okay?” She wanted to sob with relief, wanted desperately to wrap her arms around him and crush him to her.
Yet, she couldn’t. She was as helpless as a turtle on its back.
“I’m fine. Please tell me you have a knife?” Her head buzzed with a hundred questions, but their situation went above and beyond dire.
Low, a little bit gravely and a lot tired, he spoke into her ear. “Yeah. I do. Don’t move.” She ached to lean closer and absorb his presence, his everything. He cupped her ankles and examined the ties around her ankles.
His hands shook as he pulled out his knife.
“Rick. I—I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. Your leg? I—”
“Not now. And it’s not your fault. Never. Let’s concentrate on getting out of here alive. Okay?” He sounded so tired, utterly drained of his usual strength. He should be in a hospital bed, not running a Dark Horse rescue operation.
Speaking of which… Something didn’t add up.
“Rick. Where are the rest of the crew?” It might be Rick’s newly formed team, but considering the shape he was in, she didn’t think Trent would let him participate in a rescue mission. She might have only known him for a few months, but she knew enough about Trent Dawson to understand he would lock Rick down if he wasn’t up to a job.
His hands trembled on her legs. Alarmed, she looked at him closer. Was it the yellow tinted light casting the sickly hue to his skin? When sweat beaded on his forehead she feared it wasn’t. His breaths were short and shallow. He didn’t look up to walking out of the room on his own steam.
Not to mention her overprotective brother Joe who, at the minimum, would be right in the thick of things, if not barging in and taking over. Something stank to high heaven.
“Sweetheart, don’t move.” Despite the noticeable tremble in his hands, he positioned the blade with precision beneath the tie.
“Yeah. You already said that. What’s going on?” When he wouldn’t meet her eyes, her stomach sank.
His only response was to cut her bonds loose. A million pins and needles stabbed her legs. An excruciating rush of feeling returned to her lower limbs. It was all she could do not to cry out. The trembling in her muscles made Rick’s hands look like immovable granite. He sat the knife down and, starting at her ankles, tried to massage some feeling back into her legs.
Outside the room, one voice rose above the others. The one who’d taken charge and seemed the most capable had returned. “What the hell is going on here? Give me that fucking gun.”
All the other voices started talking at once, spilling a tangled story.
“Something’s up. The door to the utility room is locked. It was unlocked when I got here. I found the key. Don’t let anyone out, nobody fucking move until I get the lights back on. Not a fucking millimeter.”
“We gotta go, babe. We’re sitting ducks.”
“Okay.” The only thing she knew was that she had to trust Rick’s abilities.
He considered the window then he looked back to her. “It’ll be a tight fit, but I think we can make it.”

Release Day - One Night in Sydney

I'm celebrating the release of One Night in Sydney today. Writing the book and working with new publisher, Tirgearr Publishing, has been a great experience. Now all that's left to find out is if the book is well received. My fingers are crossed that readers enjoy Kane and Abby's romance with it's hiccups and unexpected turns. Even though the book is novella length I hope I've managed to pack it with enough emotion and hint of drama to make it interesting.

Will passion win out over wise business sense in one of
the most beautiful harbor side cities of the world?

Abigail Devon is all about business, until the dream of keeping her company alive fails and she finds herself seeking distraction in the arms of a tempting stranger she met on the plane. Kane Matheson is a man like no other, and once Abby gives into her attraction to him, passions spark and a night of erotic pleasure begins.
Kane can’t believe his luck when his flight to Sydney places Abby along his path to a fun filled weekend. She’s his kind of woman—business minded, clever, and with curves in all the right places. When he discovers they have more in common than savvy business expertise and undeniable sexual heat, he’s faced with a daunting choice, and left wondering if pleasure can win out over wise business sense in one of the most beautiful harbor side cities of the world.

Excerpt – One Night in Sydney by Jan Graham

You know, if you like, we could hang out together in the city for a bit, maybe when you’ve finished your busy day.” Kane didn’t look at her this time; speaking from his reclined position, head tilted back against the rest with his eyes closed. “I only have to try on a suit and then I’m done for the day. You could meet me there, let me know if you think I look okay, you know, thumbs up or down, and then we could grab a bite… or something. Whatever takes your fancy, beautiful.”
He raised his lids and angled himself slightly to look at her for the final part of his statement, the wicked expression and cheeky glint in his eyes giving Abby the distinct impression he hoped that he’d be the something that took her fancy. He did. But it couldn’t happen.
Abby didn’t believe in love at first sight, but she did believe in lust at first sight and Kane ticked all her boxes. Feeling breathless, hardened nipples, feeling flushed when they touched, and that increasing ache between her legs. Luckily the flight was a short one, so she’d be able to escape him soon enough. In her party days they probably would have been in the bathroom, reaffirming her membership in the mile-high club, but those days were behind her. She doubted she’d renew that membership again any time soon.
“I really don’t think that’s possible. But thanks for the offer.” She wondered if he knew she was lying. Of course it was possible, all she had to do was say yes. She merely chose not to.
“That’s a shame. I have this feeling we’d get along really well.” He tore the edge off the bottom of a page in his magazine, grabbed a pen from his shirt pocket, scribbled a number on it and handed it to her. “In case you change your mind.”
Abby laughed and stared at the mobile number in her hand. He certainly was persistent.
“I assume you’ve run out of business cards?” She continued to chuckle as the plane began its descent. “You did say you understood business, right?”
“I did. I also said I was on a pleasure trip. I’ve left all business accessories at the office. This weekend, I’m just a regular guy who uses any piece of paper on hand to give the woman he likes his number.”
Oh Lord, thank heavens the plane had just touched down. She folded the paper, slipped her fingers into the front of her shirt and tucked the number into her bra. It was a mistake to put it there, and Abby knew it the moment her gaze met Kane’s, who was now standing waiting for her to step out into the aisle.
“What?” she asked innocently as Kane stared down at her cleavage with a devilish grin on his face. “It’s just a silly habit I picked up in my partying days. I’d pop anything important in my bra and that way I wouldn’t lose it.”
Grabbing her handbag from the floor, she stood and moved to walk out into the aisle but Kane blocked her way. His body forming a human wall as he retrieved her bag from the overhead cabin. Luggage sorted, Kane didn’t move, fixing her in place with his heated gaze.
“I’m glad you think I’m important.” His devilish grin didn’t waver and he spoke in a tone laced with lust. “I’m also delighted to know that when you take off your clothes tonight and get naked, you’ll be thinking about me.”
She was about to burst into flames. Abby raised her hand, placing it on his chest with the intention of pushing him back, only to find her fingers lingered on the defined muscle beneath her touch.
“We’ll see,” she whispered.
Kane placed his hand over hers, gently gripped her fingers and raised them to his mouth. He kissed her knuckles tenderly and smiled. “We will. Now off to your very busy business day, Abigail Devon.” Stepping back, Kane handed over her bag before ushering her into the aisle. “I look forward to receiving your call later today.”
Unsure how she made it to the plane’s exit on trembling legs, Abby breathed a sigh of relief once she made it into the terminal. Allowing the disembarking crowd to carry her forward, she picked up her pace. The more distance she put between Kane Matheson and herself, the better. Today was all about saving her company, not indulging in a quickie with a man she met on a plane.
