paw-prints-7-5

Arguments with his belligerent teenage son, and the pressure of a down economy have left Luke in a dark place. Until a ray of sunshine appears in his life with her injured service dog. Excerpt

Moving as quickly as she dared, she followed him to the kitchen with her plate in her hand. “I can wash the dishes if you want to put them away.” “You don’t have to do that. You’re my guest,” he protested. “Think of it as my way of repaying you for your medical services today.” Payton went to step sideways around him to reach the sink and stumbled on Chinook who was still patiently following her around. Her knee twisted and buckled under her, but instead of hitting the floor this time, she landed against Luke’s rock solid chest, his arms wrapping tightly around her. Her nose pressed against his collar bone, and her lungs filled with his scent. Damn, she really wanted to lick him right there where his pulse fluttered beneath his scent. “Are you okay?” His concern drew her attention away from her horny musings. “Yeah.” Her voice sounded hoarse, and she cleared her throat. “I just moved too quickly I think. This dog seems to be everywhere all at once.” “You two will find a rhythm soon enough. He’ll learn to anticipate where you’re going, and you’ll start sensing where he’s at. Then you won’t stumble over each other so much.” Luke held her still, and she was debating pulling away from him when his hand came up to cup the back of her head, his nails scraping lightly across her scalp. “Payton…” She tipped her face up, and caught sight of the fire in his brown eyes before his mouth captured hers in a passionate kiss. The tingles started at their joined lips and traveled throughout her body centering on her nipples and the now dripping slit between her paw-prints-5-5
thighs. She sighed with pleasure when he pressed closer, his tongue dipping into her mouth and tangling with hers. Good lord, the man knew how to kiss. He was masterful, his large hands supporting her as if she’d become and extension of himself, and his mouth making love to hers. She’d never experienced a kiss like this one, and she knew she’d never forget it until the day she died. When they broke apart, panting heavily, he rested his forehead against hers. “I didn’t plan that, but I’m not sorry.” Payton’s eyes fluttered, and she looked up at him warily. “You’re not? I mean, I didn’t plan it either; it just sort of happened. We can forget it ever happened, okay?”paw-prints-6-5
“No, not okay.” Luke was frowning now, “Why would I want to forget it? That was incredible. There’s fire between us Payton.” “It’s probably just because it’s been so long since I was kissed. I mean, I was overseas with my unit and then in the hospital for months on end, and—” Luke actually took a small step backwards now. “So you’re saying you’re just horny then? It could have been anyone?” She shook her head, fighting to control the rising panic in her chest, “No, I just… Look, I’m not in the right headspace for a fling, or a boyfriend, or a lover, or anything.” Luke’s visage grew even more firm, and he released her completely. “Your situation is duly noted; however, I’m not going to apologize for being attracted to you. In fact, I’m not going to hide it from you either. You can pretend you’re not feeling the buzz from that kiss, but you and I both know you are.” “I don’t know what I’m feeling right now.” She spoke softly, dropping her eyes to the ground. “I just know I’m not ready for it, whatever it is.”

An Exciting New Release - Submission Dance by Lori King

First of all thank you so much Jan for having me back to your blog to share my new book. Submission Dance is the second story in the Fetish & Fantasy Series, which is my first step into self-publishing. I’ve been a traditionally published author for two years, publishing with both Siren-Bookstrand, and JK Publishing. While I am forever grateful to both companies for what they’ve taught me, I found myself wanting to try self-publishing because of the direct path from Author to Reader. Alright, I’ll admit that the complete control over selecting a cover, writing a blurb, formatting, and selecting my release date are big pluses, but I don’t want anyone to mistake that for self-publishing being easier. If you want easy sign on with a publisher, because they will help walk you through all of the tough decisions, and be there to back you if something goes wrong.

Ultimately though, when I finished the first story in the Fetish & Fantasy Series, Watching Sin, I knew that it wasn’t a good fit for either of the two publishers I work with, and I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to test the self-publishing waters. I’m glad I did, but I didn’t get through it unscathed. It took nearly 6 hours for me to figure out how to get my book uploaded on all the various sites, and even then several sites didn’t get the book live for a couple of weeks. I’m glad I’ve done it, and never-minding the learning curve, I know that there will be more self-published works in my future. Besides Watching Sin, and Submission Dance, I’ve almost finished the third book in the series, Mistress Hedonism, which I hope to release in the next couple of months.

Today, I hope you’ll take a look at Submission Dance, which is the story of one woman’s search for answers in the world of BDSM, and the Dominant who wants to teach her…

Submission Dance - A Fetish & Fantasy Novella byLori King

Blurb:

Marley Saltzman has a secret fantasy. She wants to let go of everything, and submit to a Dominant. Intrigued by her friends BDSM lifestyle, she convinces him to put her on the guest list for his monthly fetish party. She had no idea how far out of her element she would be until she came face to face with an experienced Dom.
Lex Gregory has been nursing heartache and raising his daughter alone for so long he barely remembers what a submissive feels like at his feet. When he meets Marley, he can’t believe that the naïve woman ever thought she could handle kink. All too quickly his need for her refreshing innocence and lack of preconceived notions grows, and he has to have her.
The two began a subtle dance of sexual submission and wit that leads to a night of passion and unanswered questions. Will this dance end in heartache, or will they both find their darkest fantasies fulfilled?
Warning: Adult Themes-For Mature Audiences. Contains language and actions some may deem offensive. Sexually explicit content. M/F, graphic language, consensual BDSM, spanking, public sex, HEA.

Excerpt:

“Would you like to dance, Marley?” Lex asked, rising from the low slung chair. The height of her own seat put her face almost dead even with his crotch, and there was a distinct bulge under his zipper that she found very intriguing, but he didn’t seem to notice her predicament.
“I’m really not much of a dancer…” She stammered for an excuse not to get closer to him. He was too magnetic and charming for her. She was almost afraid that if she let him pull her onto the sparsely populated dance floor, she would turn into putty in his hands, and never find herself again.
“The music is slow, and I know what I’m doing. Trust me to lead, and you’ll be fine.” She wasn’t sure if he intended the double meaning behind his words or not, but her clit certainly heard it.
Holding out his hand, he waited for her to lay her palm against his and then he tugged her to her feet. She swayed slightly, and he steadied her with a hand on her lower back just above the curve of her ass. Immediately, she had to fight the urge to press herself against his long muscular body. Certainly he already thought her an easy mark after that steaming kiss; rubbing against him like a cat in heat wouldn’t help her circumstance.
He led her onto the dance floor without another word, and before she could turn to face him, he spun her around once, and then twice, so that her balance was off and she fell into him.
With an arrogant grin on his face, he wrapped his arms around her back, and steadied them on the curve of her spine, but within proper distance from her ass. “Better, now just relax and let me guide you.  That’s right, sway with me. Dancing is like making love. It’s sensual, and there’s an exchange of power between every couple. You trust me to lead you in the right movements, and I trust you to follow me, but at any point you can walk away.” His hot breath whispered over her ear from above, and her cheek brushed the smooth silk of his shirt. “You have all the control, Marley.”
Lex continued to murmur instructions to her, softly seducing her with his body and his innuendos. Her breasts grew heavy and achy, and her nipples were diamond hard points that she knew were probably poking through the thin material covering them. She tipped her head back to look up into his deep blue eyes, and her knees grew weak at the intense lust burning there.
“Careful. If you slip I get to carry you off and say I swept you off your feet. That would make you my rightful prize to do with as I pleased for the night,” he whispered.
Marley snorted out a laugh, “Is that a party rule?”
“No, but everyone knows the black knight steals away the princess at her first ball and seduces her.”

Author Hot Seat Welcomes Lori King

The author hot seat specials are designed to help readers get to know some of today’s popular and up and coming authors a little better. The questions are broken into four sections - About your writing, about you, fun stuff and finally. Some of the questions are easy, other may need a little more thought and some may cause our author friends to hesitate before answering. Still, they all answer.

Today we welcome back Lori King, who is obviously a glutton for punishment...lol. Lori has a new book out, Sidney's Triple Shot and I've designed a whole new set of questions since she previously sat in the hot seat. Let's see what Lori has to say this time around. As usual we have information about Sidney's Triple shot following the interview.

About your writing:

How many books have you written during your career so far and which is your favorite?

I have four books written and published so far: Fire of the Wolf, Reflections of The Wolf, Legacy of the Wolf, and this new one Sidney’s Triple Shot. Picking a favorite book, would be like picking a favorite child. Usually my favorite is my most recent work in progress because I’m caught up in the emotion of the story, and I love the getting to know you moments of learning my characters.

Have any of your books received negative reviews and how did you handle the criticism?

I have been lucky to receive very little negative criticism on my writing. When someone takes the time to share their opinion-good or bad-I try to take it as notes instead of critiques. I’m always trying to learn from other peoples input, and every new idea helps me grow as a writer.

Do you believe in writer’s block and if so, how do you overcome it?

Of course I believe in it, but for me it’s usually more of a writer’s hurdle than a block. I will walk away from a story for a few days and let it stew if I have trouble, or divert my attention to another work in progress. If that doesn't help, I’ll take some time to read some of my favorite authors. Usually that gets my muse talking again. J

What is the one genre you would never write and why?

A memoir or autobiography. I just don’t think that everyone needs all of the personal details of my life, so I can’t see myself ever doing that. And actually, I’m really kinda boring nowadays!

Have you ever written a book that you've regretted publishing and why?

No, and I’m not sure that I would. I spend a lot of time making sure my books are ‘right,’ before they even go to the publisher. Everything I’ve published I stand 100% behind.

If a reader said they wanted to write a book, what advice would you give them?

Do it! Set a goal of 1k words a day, and after 30 days you are well on your way to a manuscript! I love to encourage creativity, and I think that there are masses of untapped creative geniuses in the world that just haven’t found their moment yet. Put the pen to the paper and get cracking!

About you:

Tell us what a typical day in your life is like?

I work during the day in the financial industry, and usually I’m home in the afternoons to work on whatever I need to for my books. I take a couple hours break from work in the evenings for family time with my three kiddos and hubby, and then I write for a couple of hours before bed. Working two careers can be trying, but it’s very fulfilling to have people enjoy my books.

What sort of things put you in a bad mood?

Not being organized! I have mild OCD and I am meticulous about having a routine. When my routine gets jumbled I get crazy!

Do you have a bucket list and what’s one thing you still want to do that you haven’t done?

Actually, publishing a book was one of the things on my bucket list a year ago, and now I've published four! I’m working my way through my list now, last year I checked off losing weight, publishing a book, and getting a tattoo. This year I plan to conquer my fear of flying, learn a new hobby (I’m thinking swing dance), and publish at least four more books. A big thing on my bucket list is traveling to Scotland and Ireland. I've always wanted too, but first I have to get over my fear of flight!

What makes you laugh?

My kids. They keep my life worth living. I can be in the worst mood ever, and my three year old will come running into my office to hug me, just changing my whole consciousness.

Do you like to read and what are you reading at the moment?

Reading is second only to writing. I LOVE to read. I read a novel in about 2 hours though, so for me telling you what I’m reading at the moment wouldn't help you. In just the last three days I've read the first four books of the Southern Vampire Mysteries Series-the books that inspired True Blood.

If you couldn't write anymore, what would you do instead?

Probably wither up and die! There are so many voice to text programs now, that I would hope that even if I lost my arms I would still find a way to write. If it wasn't an option, because I lost my creativity, I would enjoy being an English teacher I think.

Fun Stuff:

If you could go out with one famous person who would it be and why?

Alexander Skarsgard. I’m on a True Blood kick right now, and that man is delicious!

Do you have a habit that drives your partner/friends/family nuts and what is it?

They call it the “time warp.” When I’m working on a book I lose all track of time, and tend to even block out sounds. So they can be standing next to me trying to get my attention and I won’t hear them.

In your opinion, what makes a person attractive?

Confidence.

What is the strangest food you've ever eaten?

Barbecue cows tongue. Tastes just like roast beef, but getting past the fact that I’m eating something’s TONGUE was hard.

Would you rather have a classic 1969 convertible Mustang or have the use of a beach side condo any time you want?

The condo. I’m not much of a car person, but I love a vacation!

And finally:

Would you rather survive an apocalyptic event (yes, even a zombie apocalypse) or die instantly without knowing what happened to your family and friends?

What a great question! I think I would rather survive the event.  Maybe it’s my writer side, or maybe I’m just nosy, but I wouldn't want to not know what happened to my friends and family. Plus, think of the stories I could write after surviving a zombie apocalypse!

Great answers, Lori and I must say I'd fight you for Alexander Skarsgard he is definitely delicious. So what do you think of Lori's interview and the book excerpts below? Also do you agree Alexander  Skarsgard is a good choice of date or would you pick someone else. Inquiring minds want to know :)

Sidney’s Triple Shot

Sidney Rowe has been abused in ways that most people can’t even imagine.  After a horrific miscarriage, she left behind everything she had, to escape her ex-boyfriend.  She finds refuge in the kindness of the three Dawson brothers. They give her a job and a sense of security in the small town of Apache Crossing.

Xavier, Tyce, and Noah Dawson, have built their bar, Triple Shot, into a profitable enterprise.  The three former Marines, have also built a reputation for integrity in the community, but their sex appeal and charm are legendary. They enjoy their playboy status…that is until a jumpy, skittish Sidney stumbles into their lives needing their help.

Sexual tension explodes when the brothers decide they want to protect and share Sidney, but to have her they have to stop her ex from haunting her. Can they keep her safe, and win her damaged heart?

Excerpt:

“I’m fine. I’m sorry I panicked,” she said, but her voice came out as a squeak. Reality came crashing into her like a tidal wave. She was sitting in Tyce’s lap, surrounded by the only other two men that had ever made her throb with desire, and she had their full attention. Xavier’s hands had just been running all over her body, making her skin tingle. Her anxiety ratcheted up as she tried to come up with a believable explanation for her panic attack. She looked up, and when Xavier’s eyes met hers, she instinctively dropped her gaze away from the intensity in those blue orbs.
“Don’t be scared. It was a pallet of supplies that got dropped when the loader’s hydraulics broke. No one got hurt, thankfully. We just have a bit of a mess in the back room to clean up.” Noah crouched down next to Xavier, taking her hands into his and drawing her attention. “Honey, why did it scare you so much?”
“Umm…I don’t know…I mean, I heard it, and I thought it was a gunshot…” She fidgeted for a moment, but froze when she remembered that she was still in Tyce’s lap. The thickness underneath her told her that he was very physically aware of her wiggling.
“A gunshot? Why would someone be shooting around here, Sidney?” Xavier’s question set panic building in her chest again, and she started to pull away from Tyce’s embrace without answering.
“No, Sidney, you can’t run away from us this time. What is going on? Are you in trouble?” Tyce pulled her back against his chest and pressed her head back down to his shoulder. Her whole body was trembling, and he kissed the top of her head, running his hand up and down her back. For an instant she wondered how it would feel to be held like this through the night. Comforted and cherished like something precious. She quickly discarded the fantasy and tried to refocus on the situation.
“Tyce, please let me go,” she said with a strength that belied the fragile state her emotions were in. When she turned away from him, she found Xavier still kneeling in front of her. He reached out and gently but firmly gripped her chin, forcing her to look him in the eyes.
“Want to tell us about Robert Wicks?” Xavier said quietly. Sidney felt like her lungs would never expand again. Terror trickled down her spine, followed by sadness that was so overpowering she had to close her eyes against their questioning looks. Like waves each emotion swept over her, leaving her breathless and closer to the edge of an irrationally emotional breakdown. She twisted away from Xavier’s grip on her jaw and jumped up from Tyce’s lap.
“No, actually I don’t. That’s my business, and I don’t need to share it with anyone. I’m going back out to the front to help Kara.” She reached the door before she felt hands on her. Noah’s firm body pressed against her back, and he wrapped his arms tightly around her. One arm was across her chest and the other across her hips, holding her immobile while he pressed a kiss to her ear. It was a beautifully sweet touch that made her ache to share her burdens with him. “Stop, honey. Whatever it is, you can talk to us,” he murmured against her ear, and goose bumps prickled across her arms. She couldn’t tell them about Robert, and she couldn’t let them get any closer to her. It was time to leave.
“Look, I’m sorry if I gave you all the wrong impression, but I don’t want or need your help. What I need is my privacy, and my paycheck. I will finish my shift and leave my uniform in the locker tonight. Clearly I can’t continue working here.” She held herself stiff until she felt Noah reluctantly release her, and then she threw the door open and walked down the hallway. She could feel the tingle of all three men’s eyes on her again until the door shut behind her. Straightening her spine, she fought off tears as she reentered the bar dining room. She wouldn’t cry for a man again. No matter how much she wanted to.

Author Hot Seat - Lori King

The author hot seat specials are designed to help readers get to know some of today's popular and up and coming authors a little better. The questions are broken into four sections - About your writing, about you, fun stuff and finally. Some of the questions are easy, other may need a little more thought and some may cause our author friends to hesitate before answering. Still, they all answer.

Today we have Lori King in our author hot seat.  Let's see how Lori goes once we trun up the heat on the questions :)  Welcome to the Authors Hot Seat, Lori. Make yourself comfortable and we'll get started by asking some easy questions.

About your writing:

How did you get started as a writer?

I think I started writing as soon as I was big enough to hold a pencil, and realized I could create words with it. The first time I had something published I was fourteen and a poem I wrote was published in an anthology book put out by Poetry.com.

Why do you write?

Because I don’t know how not to. Even during the ten years I was having babies, and not focusing on my writing; I was still doing it. I was still jotting down poems and story ideas when I had time. It’s always been my way of expressing emotion and clearing my head.

Have you ever had a day you wanted to quit and never write again?

I recently had an encounter with a very mean individual, who related my writing to giving children porn, and the hurt she caused me personally made me wonder if I should walk away. I came to the conclusion that her remarks were made from jealousy, and that I had to learn to let criticism roll off of my back. Outside of that one day, I can’t remember any other time.

Do you feel lucky to be doing what you are doing?

Absolutely! Thousands of people dream every day of having a book published, and I’ve published two and have multiple others in the works. How could I not feel blessed?
Tell me how you got to where you are today?

A supportive family, and determination. I set a goal for myself and wouldn’t give up until I had reached it.

How do your family/spouses react to your work as an author? Do they know what you write?

My family knows what I write, and thankfully has always supported me. Even the ones who aren’t interested in reading erotic romance, have purchased books, and pimped my books for me to their friends who are. I’m very lucky.

About you:

What are you passionate about in life?

I’m passionate about grabbing life with both hands and pursuing your dreams even if they seem out of reach. As a mom with a fulltime job, I heard from many voices, that I would never be able to successfully write and publish books, but I proved them wrong. I’m still pushing myself to make new goals, and have bigger dreams. Life is too short not to.

If you had to give a thank-you speech at the Oscars, who would you thank and what would you say?

First: my husband, he has been my rock as well as a springboard for me. Second: my children, who constantly remind me to view things in a different way, and welcome the small joys in life. Third: the family members who have consistently voiced their support for my choices. Last: I would thank the publishers at Siren-Bookstrand for giving me a chance when I was an unknown in the industry. They saw something in me, and took a chance, and I can’t thank them enough.

What are the three most important life lessons you’ve learned that might make life easier for others?

#1: Jump with both feet. If you just dip your toe in, the water will seem too cold, and you won’t want to risk it.
#2 I am the me that I want to be, but there will always be ways to improve myself.

#3 Don’t let other peoples negativity deter me from the path I should be on.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. Whom would it be and why?

Jenn Leblanc, owner of www.studiosmexy.com she gets to take pics of some of the hottest men, to be used as book covers. I would LOVE to live in her world for a week.

What's the worst thing you did as a kid?

I was a good kid, but a TERRIBLE teenager. I was a partier that drank too much, had sex too much, snuck out, hated my parents, and anyone with authority over me. So there is no way I can pinpoint one thing I did that was the worst.

What do you do to have fun?

Besides reading erotic romance? I love to take to go camping with my kids and hubs. We all fish, swim, roast hot dogs and marshmallows…one of my favorite activities. Outside of those great weekends, I like to do DIY projects to my husband’s utter dismay. I’m always finding something crazy to try on Pinterest (I’m a pinning addict-look my boards up under Lori King).

Share a funny incident in your life.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty much a walking comedy act. I’ve always wondered if I live in a world like The Truman Show, where I’m actually in the middle of a daily sitcom. J I’ll pick something from those terrible high-school angst days. When I was a sophomore in high-school I was big into theater, and the group of kids I ran with decided late one night that we should all go down to the local cemetery to share a case of beer, and stir up some trouble. (That’s just what we did in a small town for fun.) The only problem was that we didn’t take into consideration that the cemetery is closed after dark, and someone spotted us and called the police. When we saw the cop car pulling up the gravel drive, we all scattered. Me, being the brainiac that I am dropped to the ground behind a large headstone frozen and praying that I wouldn’t get caught. Well, the officer saw me, of course, and came over to question me. Instead of answering his questions I decided to use my theater talents, and began to wail and cry loudly. I was kicking my feet and pounding my fists on the ground, yelling at the top of my lungs, “Why did you have to leave me! I love you, I can’t live without you!” After a couple seconds of this act, the officer yelled trying to get my attention, and then proceeded to ask me my name, etc. I told him that my father just died and I was missing him, so I came to the cemetery to pay my respects. The only problem was, that I hadn’t bothered to look at the headstone I was crying too. The name on the headstone was Judith McConnell, and she died in 1984. Needless to say the cops escorted me hope, and ticketed me for trespassing. Guess my acting skills needed work. LOL

 Fun Stuff:

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Tina Fey. I’m a HUGE fan of her comedy, and my life could only be a comedy, so she would be my pick.

If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be?

I would probably be a candy bar of some sort. I like making people feel better, and I have an enormous sweet tooth.

What is your favorite color- food- song- movie?

Color: Purple, Food: McDonalds cheeseburgers (yeah I know I’m still a 4yr old at heart), Song: Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce, Movie:

What's the funniest pick up line ever used on you?

“I like your shirt…it will look great on my bedroom floor.” I kid you not, and before you ask NO it didn’t work.

What's the one thing you can't live without?

Diet Dr. Pepper. Without it every morning I literally get the shakes. I’m completely addicted to the caffeine.

And finally:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:
-An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
-An old friend who once saved your life.
-The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
You can only fit one person in your car, who would you choose to offer a ride to?

OMG, what a hell of a choice. Honestly, I think I would get out of the car, letting my old friend and the old lady take it, while I stayed back to make wild kinky with the partner of my dreams in the rain! LOL

Excerpt from Reflections of the Wolf:

“She’s okay, Liam. She’s just exhausted and overwhelmed. Give her some breathing room.” Tina could hear another man’s voice talking to Liam, but she couldn’t seem to make her eyes open to see who it was.

“Why did she pass out then?” Liam’s voice was annoyed, and she thought she heard him growl a bit. Damn that was sexy.

“Who knows why women faint? What were you guys talking about?” A third masculine voice spoke.

“Shit.” Liam muttered. “I told her she was my mate. I didn’t mean to scare her.”

Tina could just imagine the look on Liam’s face right now. She understood that Caroline believed in this whole mating thing, and that was fine for her life, but Tina wasn’t interested in a serious relationship. She had lived through her share of heartache when it came to men, and the pain just wasn’t worth it anymore.

She took a deep breath and forced her eyes open a crack. Instantly Liam and two other men were leaning over her. What the hell did they feed these men? They were enormous and gorgeous!

“Oh my God, I’ve died and gone to single women’s heaven,” she said, moaning and then blushing when the two new men laughed, and Liam frowned. “Who are you guys?”

“Hey, Sweet Tina, nice and easy now. How are you feeling?” Liam’s eyes held compassion, concern, and a glimmer of apprehension. A gentle tug of desire shot through her body at his soft endearment. He helped her sit up, scooting to sit behind her to brace her back against his chest. She was now between his outstretched thighs with her head tucked just under his chin and his arms around her protectively.

“Like a werewolf beat the shit out of me,” she grumbled, and all three men laughed. She felt Liam relax against her a little bit. He rested his hands on her flat tummy, and his thumbs rubbed tiny circle patterns through the T-shirt she wore. She could feel sparks shoot across her skin, and she grimaced in her mind. Her body sure wanted a relationship with him.

“Good. I was afraid you were just going to say fine or something silly like that.” His amusement rippled through her, making her smile.

“Hi, Tina. I’m Rafe Whetstone. This is my brother Ryley.” He indicated the beautiful godlike creature standing next to him. “We were quite impressed with your show of bravery in there, but you better take it easy for a bit. If your back gets worse, Liam will get you to the doctor. You hit that wall really hard when he threw you. And now with you passing out on us like that, it makes me wonder about your head. Is it hurting?” Rafe looked like a Viking warrior with golden-blond hair that was a little shaggy and electric-blue eyes that seemed to assess her in one lazy sweep. She shivered at the look of interest heating his gaze and instinctively pressed backward into Liam. His arms tightened around her possessively.

“Yes, but I took a baseball bat to the back of it a few hours ago, so it’s to be expected. I think my head hurts more now because it’s trying to process all of this…umm…this werewolf love story my best friend is apparently living.” She rubbed her temples trying to ease the ache. Liam’s strong hand moved to the base of her neck and started massaging the tension away. She groaned softly, and Ryley laughed loudly.

“Yeah, well, if Liam has his way, you will be living your own shortly. We have to go talk with Dev and Damon. Take care of your girl, Liam. I wouldn’t want to have to sweep her away from you and make her fall in love with me.” Ryley winked at Tina, and Liam growled a threat.

“Oh, pumpkin, that’s sweet, but I’m just not sure there is a man alive that’s qualified for that job,” she said, smiling sweetly at Ryley as he and the others laughed.

“Oh brother, you’re going to have your hands full with this little spitfire. Good luck!” Ryley teased Liam, and Tina’s eyes narrowed at him.

“He won’t have to worry about me shortly,” she grumbled, but the pressure increased from Liam’s hands, and a low moan escaped her throat. All three men ignored her implied threat, and it grated her nerves.

Ryley really was very sexy. He matched his brother in golden looks, but he kept his hair much longer. It brushed the tops of his shoulders, and his eyes were just a touch lighter than Rafe’s with flecks of green in them. It seemed all of the firemen of Battalion One were flirts with bodies built on Olympus. She would have to see about spending more time with Caroline if this was the company she was keeping.

She watched the two Viking warriors walked away and had to swallow hard at the sight of their tight butts. Wow, maybe I hit my head harder than I thought. She chided herself for drooling over those two men when the one that really scared her was holding her in his arms. Worrying now about what Ryley had said, she fidgeted in Liam’s grip. Liam couldn’t really believe that she was his mate, could he? Goose bumps prickled over her skin when Liam’s kissed the nape of her neck where he had been gently massaging.

“Are they family, too?” she asked Liam curiously.

Liam tensed before replying. “Yes, they are my adopted brothers. You can trust them. Well, you can trust them with your life, but Ryley won’t ever stop trying to get into your pants.”

She laughed out loud and felt a surge of feminine confidence. “I’m sure I will enjoy his attempts.”

Liam growled behind her, and she stilled in his arms. That was definitely a possessive growl if she had ever heard one. Turning to look back over her shoulder with narrowed eyes, she took in his jealous frown and huffed with irritation. After a few moments of glaring at each other in silence, he sighed and relaxed, and she couldn’t help but smile at her victory. She wouldn’t tolerate being told who to spend time with, no matter who it was.
