Foster an Author Week

I’m currently participating in an amazing event running from October 22nd to 26th. It’s called Foster an Author week and organized by three amazing women over on Facebook who decided a few years ago to hook authors up with bloggers in a mutual love and promotion fest.
This is my first year with the event but my blogger is a three year veteran. I asked Shirley, from Shirley’s bookshelf, to provide some information about how she became a book blogger and FB page owner where she promotes all things romance. Her page is amazing, I’ve already found some exciting new authors by checking out her posts. I hope after reading Shirley’s story you’ll visit her page and share some love by liking and following Shirley’s bookshelf.
Take it away, Shirley ðŸ™‚

I fell in love with reading when I was in the fourth grade and read Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder and have spent my life reading whenever I had a free moment.
shirley with booksIn 2012, when everyone was coming down off the high of reading the Fifty Shades series, I stumbled across a blog post about a soon to be released series and learned that one of the authors was a native of my home state, Pennsylvania, and also a man. I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to see what a male writer could give readers in a predominantly female dominated industry. I was not disappointed, and shared his work on my personal FB page. Of course, once you’ve purchased books on Amazon, they make suggestions for other authors/books you might also like. I came across a series by a western romance writer who included historical facts about her home state of Texas in her books and they greatly appealed to the history geek in me. And, because I wanted others to hear about her work, I shared on FB. Well, some friends and family weren’t appreciating some of the things I was sharing, and I can understand that, so in May of 2013 I set up my own page, Shirley’s Bookshelf, where I could share whatever I wanted and people who liked what they saw could follow me and my family and friends didn’t have “suggestive” images showing up in their newsfeed. Initially I simply shared what I was reading at the time, and cover reveals, releases and sales for authors I followed.
In 2014, I attended my first ever book signing, where I met new to me authors, and had myself added to their mailing lists. I started to get invites to their book release events, and it was then that I learned about bloggers who also coordinated events for authors, and I signed myself up for their mailing lists as well. 2014, into 2015 is when I began to share more than just authors whose work I’ve read, and it was then that my page grew from the maybe 200 followers I had at the time, to the 2700 I have now. For some, that’s not many, but I’m happy when I introduce even just one person to an author they had not heard of previously.
I have had the opportunity to attend at least three signings each year since 2015, and the authors whose work I share on my page has continued to grow. I have been privileged to meet authors from around the country (a few from outside the USA), and from many different walks of life. Some of them have become treasured friends, and I feel blessed that they’ve come into my life and that I’ve had experiences with them that I might not have had otherwise.
I really enjoy spreading the word about author’s work and I especially feel great satisfaction when I’ve introduced a reader to a “new to them” author and they find a new favorite writer.
Shirley resides in Central Pennsylvania, USA, with her husband and fur babies Sugar and Maya. She is the proud mom to a son and daughter, and recently celebrated the 1stbirthday of her grandson. Her Monday through Friday, nine to five job is working as the executive assistant to the department that provides services to students with special needs at an educational agency, and evenings are spent with her family and spreading the word about her favorite books and authors.

Wylde-Shore Series Highlight

As you know I'm currently participating in the I Heart Books Giveaway, if you'd like to know more about the prize pool then click the giveaway tab on the top button bar. As part of the prize pool, I've donated two ebooks (winners choice) from my backlist .

So, to make the selection easier, I thought I'd spend the next four days highlighting my books Today I'm starting with my Wylde-Shore series and the two currently available reads, Finding Angel and Playing Jax. Enjoy ☺

Finding Angel by Jan Graham

How can one woman and an accounts ledger cause so much trouble.

Angel Wylde is a woman with a complicated existence, a damaging past, and a desire to be normal. Unfortunately, what's normal to Angel is unconventional to the rest of us. A crime boss will kill to get an incriminating ledger from her. Detective Steve Jax also wants the ledger from Angel, but the infuriating woman has disappeared. Christian and Daniel Shore, Steve's two best friends, don't know about the ledger. They just want Angel. A chance meeting has them taking her home and deciding she is the only woman for them-yes, both of them. Obviously, Angel isn't the only one with unconventional desires. So who does Angel trust? Two kinky Doms she just met, a cop she doesn't know anything about, or a nasty crime boss? Trusting all of them may save her life, and falling in love with two Dominant brothers is the icing on the cake. Note: There is no sexual relationship or touching for titillation between or among siblings.

Angel felt like she wanted to scream. She needed more than gentle touching. For some reason she was hornier than usual. She had been since she’d woken. As much as she loved being turned on with gentle strokes and caresses, tonight it just added to the fire that had simmered inside her all day. She wanted to be taken, and she wanted it now. Her cunt hadn’t lost the heat of their morning fuck session so she didn’t need to be teased to arousal. She was already there.
Christian joined them on the bed, and Angel felt his hand ease under the lace of her pants. His fingers teased open her lips and slowly made their way to her clit. God, she wanted him to rip her pants from her while Daniel tore away her bra, she wanted them to take her with force, and she wanted to be filled with both of them and filled now.
“Grrr,” Angel growled, looking over at Christian as she tried to pull Daniel closer to her hard nipple, wanting to feel the bite of his teeth against it.
“Fuck it, Christian rip my pants off, tear them off, and fuck me now,” she demanded.
Obviously it didn’t have the effect she was after as both men eased back, removing the touch from her body altogether. She kicked her legs against the mattress and screamed in frustration.
“Are you throwing a tantrum?” Christian laughed down at her as he licked the wetness from his fingers.
“Yes.” Angel sat up and pulled off her bra and then her pants. “I want to be fucked hard, now, or I’m going to explode.”
Angel pushed Daniel backward and attempted to straddle him, only to feel her body being lifted up and off the bed by Christian. Angel could feel the tip of Christian’s erection brush against her bottom as he held her, back firmly against his hard body, feet dangling in the air.
“Ask nicely,” Christian spoke into her ear before skimming his lips over the softness of her neck.
“Bite me,” Angel snapped back at him, trying to wriggle out of the tight hold he had on her. She felt his lips part slightly and stilled in his arms as his teeth sank into her neck, biting hard and sucking her flesh in between them. The pain was exhilarating as she screamed and moaned in delight.
“Yes,” she whimpered as her hand rose up to push his face harder against her neck. As soon as she spoke, Christian released her flesh from between his teeth and laughed as she growled at him once again.
“Wylde by name, wild by nature. Or so it seems tonight anyway,” he joked, staring over at Daniel who was still on the bed wearing nothing but a wry smile.
“So you want this?” Daniel asked Angel as he eased himself back onto one elbow, stretching out on the bed, his hard cock reaching up into the air as he massaged it with his hand. “But you don’t want to ask for it nicely,” he stated in amusement.
“What’s got you so horny tonight, my love?” Christian asked, easing her feet onto the floor but still holding her firmly.
“I need you both inside me. I’m so horny I could die at any minute. I’ve been horny all day, and I want you to fuck me now!” Angel stamped her foot and screamed the last part of her statement, only to hear both men laugh as she did.
“Let me get this straight.” The smirk on Daniel’s face was more annoying than the fact he had begun to stroke his cock, or at least Angel thought so until she saw a glisten of pre-cum seep from the end of it. “After all the emotional events of the day, you are refusing a night of gentle lovemaking and demanding we just fuck you?”
“Bingo,” Angel stated as she slammed her heel down onto the top of Christian’s foot and slipped from his arms, diving toward Daniel lounging on the bed.
“Fuck that hurt,” Christian yelled as he reached for Angel, taking hold of her by the arm and stopping her escape.
Her knees were already on the bed by the time he reclaimed her, and Christian allowed her to fall forward as he quickly administer three hard smacks onto her bare bottom. Angel screamed, her hand going immediately to the red heated spot on her butt cheek.
That was definitely not a spanking for play. That was more like you’ve been a bad girl punishment kind of smack.
Christian released Angel as she rolled over onto her back, her hand still pressed against the mark on her butt.
“Ouch,” she pouted, looking up at Christian.
“Ouch,” Christian replied, pointing to his foot.
“So you need to be fucked, Angel.” Daniel dragged her to the centre of the bed. “Hard and fast, no foreplay, no gentle teasing?” Angel nodded her head, desire flaming behind her emerald eyes.
“On one condition, no holes barred.” Christian looked down at her as she lay naked in the centre of the bed. “Do you understand me, sweetie? We take you any way we want.”

Playing Jax by Jan Graham

If love is a game then Rhiannon
McCabe thinks Steve Jax is a prize worth playing for.

Steve Jax buried his heart, along with his soul mate, two years ago. He had his turn in the game of love, and it didn't work out, end of story. His new neighbor might stir certain passions within him, but his dark, kinky desires aren't the sort of thing a sweet, naive ex-nun should be exposed to. All he has to do is convince the determined little minx of that. Rhiannon McCabe has never been in love. She's hidden under a religious veil since she was eighteen. Now everything's changed. She's left the church, created a new life, and finally met the only man to ever arouse her sexual nature. Steve might think he doesn't have the capacity to love her, but she's determined to convince him otherwise. If love really is a game, then Steve Jax is a prize worth playing for.

Adult excerpt

He slid one hand up her thigh, only to still when he reached between her legs.
“You’re not wearing underpants, sweetheart. Why is that?”
“I was waiting for you to come home. I thought you might like it.” He made a low, growling noise beside her neck as he nuzzled his face into her.
“What does not wearing panties indicate to me, darling? Tell me what you hoped I’d do when I found out.” His fingers slipped between her thighs, and he began to slowly press them into the wetness, circling her clit, exploring the opening he’d liberated just the day before. Rhia arched her body toward him in response and tried to compose the words.
“Sex,” she gasped, as a second finger penetrated her. “I hoped we’d have sex.”
“We’re not going to have sex, Rhia.” She whimpered as he removed his fingers from inside her. “I’m going to show you what happens to naughty girls who walk around without panties on.”
“W-what happens?” She watched as he sucked the juice from her body off his fingers.
“I fuck them senseless.” His lips reclaimed hers, his fingers clamped tight in her hair. His other hand cupped her breast and pinched at the nipple beneath the thin cotton dress she wore. He moved his mouth to her neck, laving his tongue over her flesh, biting her neck, and licking away the sting. She suddenly realized he hadn’t devoured her before, because he was consuming her now.
“I love this short little summer dress. Do you have more of these?”
“Yes, one more. I have one…why?” She couldn’t think, could barely speak. Why on earth was he asking about her dress?
He didn’t answer her. Instead he kissed her once more, another ravenous kiss that made her moan. She knew he was moving them backward, or forward, she didn’t care. The kiss, combined with his hands roving over her body, disoriented her. The arousal pulsed through her, and moisture spilled between her legs. He could take her anywhere, as long as he kept touching her. Steve lifted her slightly, sliding her onto the dining table. Spreading her legs, he stood in between them. He released her lips, and began to move her away from him, lowering her onto the table.
His eyes, filled with a dazed lust, surely resembled hers. As her back connected with the table, his hands moved to the front of her dress. He ripped it open, buttons flying into the air. She let out a cry of surprise, or was it another moan of delight? How could having her clothes torn be so erotic that her pussy clenched in delight? He sucked one nipple firmly into his mouth, the pull so firm it bordered on pain. He ripped the rest of the dress down the middle until it lay beneath her like a sheet.
He continued to eat at her breasts, devouring one nipple then moving to the next. Stinging little bites across the soft flesh and a quick lick of his tongue accompanied each transition between the hard peaks. The pleasure with a little sting of pain had her crying out and moaning beneath him. His hands moved between her legs, but they weren’t touching her. The thump of something on the table next to her made her look to the side. His wallet lay open, a trail of condoms poking from between the leather. He raised his head, standing at full height over her.
“Look what you do to me, sweetheart.” Steve’s husky voice, deepened with his own arousal. Rhia looked at him, raised herself onto her elbows and watched him sheath his erection. “Are you ready for me, baby?”
He positioned the head against her opening as he spoke. She didn’t know if she said yes or just thought it, but it didn’t matter, he was already pushing inside her. She watched his manhood disappear between her legs, and the look of pleasure on his face was undeniable. Rhia arched as he penetrated her. One thrust, two, and three, he was fully embedded inside her. She cried out with each movement, grappling to make sense of opposing stimuli, pain as her body stretched to accommodate his girth and the pleasurable slide along nerve endings that eased the discomfort. He gripped her hips and pushed into her with a sense of urgency she hadn’t experienced before.
Waves of erotic delight filled her as he began to pound her forcefully. The strokes drove her wild with desire, each one building the need for the next, for more. The sensations built quickly. Her pussy quivered and pulsed around the intrusion. He raised her legs to rest over his shoulders and leant forward, taking her deeper. The first orgasm hit her like a freight train, pushing the air from her lungs, the scream echoing in her head, not making it to the outside world. His hands rested on the table, his wrists abutting her shoulders, holding her in place.
“Look at me.” Somehow the words penetrated her mind.
She looked at him, his face above her. Her calves framed his face. His eyes now appeared to be the deepest sapphire, nearly black. His hair fell around his face, perspiration trickling down his brow. He didn’t let her recover. The next orgasm, more powerful than the first, as he continued to relentlessly thump into her like a man possessed.
“You’re so beautiful, Rhia. Your cunt wrapped around me like a tight fucking glove. Your face dazed with pleasure. Come again, baby, I love when you come all over me.”

Author Special - Lydia Michaels

Normally I reserve Fridays for my Author Hot Seat specials. Today is a bit different though, today I don't need to ask this author any hair-raising questions, her book is hot enough to speak for itself. Breaking Perfect is the new novel by author Lydia Michaels and it's so hot, it carries a warning label.

Lydia Michaels, award-winning author of contemporary, paranormal, and erotic romance is switching things up!

You may be familiar with her series about sexy Amish Vampyres—that’s right, AMISH—which won The Top Bite Award in 2012 from Bitten by Paranormal Romance. You also may know her New Castle series, a contemporary series, which takes each heroine to the limit and proves how capable women truly are.

But this May Lydia is switching things up a bit with her new novel, Breaking Perfect. Breaking Perfect is the first book by Ms. Michaels that comes with a warning. Beware, readers, this one is HOT! Breaking Perfect releases May 9th from Secret Cravings Publishing and you can get a sneak peek here!

 Breaking Perfect

Dr. and Mrs. Mason Davis appear to have the perfect life, but looks can be deceiving. Liberty isn’t perfect, far from it, yet everyday she strives to be the ideal wife. It was love at first sight for Mason, despite all the challenges living with someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder might face. And from the moment Liberty gave him her heart, he knew he was meant to keep her safe. Mason accepts that Liberty is flawed, even when she does not. He endeavors to keep life as orchestrated as possible for his wife, but when his ex-lover, Sean, shows up unannounced, Mason loses a bit of his ever present control and cracks begin to show in his perfect life.

Liberty’s just right, carefully ordered world begins to unravel when she falls for the man who is in love with her husband. When what she wants is the antithesis of perfect, she struggles with her desires, and fears she may break. But breaking may be the only thing that can set Liberty free.

A beautifully told, psychological tale that redefines the meaning of perfect and breaks all the rules of love.

WARNING: Breaking Perfect is a highly graphic erotic romance, which contains content that may be not be suitable for all readers. This novel examines the Dominant/submissive dynamic, explores areas touching on light BDSM, and includes situations some readers may find offensive. This book is a poly-amorous romance, which means it is a love story between three people trying to find their happily ever after. There are intense sexual scenes, which include MMF ménage, meaning the male characters may interact sexually with or without the female heroine present.

Excerpt from Breaking Perfect

Liberty couldn’t help but step back. The stranger standing on her porch was enormous and no one she had ever seen before. He didn’t look like a solicitor, but for some reason a curious, self-preserving instinct awakened inside of her. She had the sense that this man could harm her, in more than just a physical sense. A foreboding impression unnerved her. It somehow signified the one thing she never dealt with well. Change. This man was more than just a stranger passing by. The disquiet thrumming through her veins was palpable.
Liberty held the door securely in a position so she could shut it quickly if need be. “Can I help you?”
The man shifted awkwardly on enormous booted feet and rooted his hands farther into his pockets. The sun had set and, like most Carolina nights on the coast, the temperature had dropped significantly. He only wore a threadbare white T and was likely cold. However, that threadbare T did nothing to hide his enormous arms, corded with muscle and decorated with some sort of tattoo peeking past the cuff.
“Mrs. Davis?”
Her searching eyes jerked from his thick arms to his face. How did he know her name? “Yes.”
His gaze moved over her as if analyzing her as she’d been analyzing him. Who the hell was this guy and how dare he look at her and make her feel as if she somehow didn’t measure up to his expectations? She pressed the door closed a little more and braced her bare foot behind it.
He cleared his throat. “I’m Sean O’Malley. Is your husband home?”
Sean O’Malley? Sean O’Malley? Why did that name sound familiar? “You called last night.”
“Yes, I’m the man that called.”
She didn’t want to admit Mason was out, let alone that he wouldn’t return until morning. Not to this towering pile of muscle and tattooed flesh, but she couldn’t lie and then fail to produce her husband. “He can’t come to the door right now. Can I pass along a message?”
He frowned at her as if he knew she was lying. She stood a little taller, daring him to challenge her. He most likely found her attempt to intimidate him with her five foot stature next to his probably six and a half foot build laughable. Something seemed to click in his mind and his expression softened.
He held his hands out as if in peaceful surrender. “Uh, I know you probably don’t know who I am, but I’m an old friend of Mase’s. We went to Duke together.”
Her shoulders sagged a little in relief, but she wasn’t wholly convinced this guy wasn’t out to do her family harm. As a doctor, anyone could look up Mason’s records and see where he went to school.
“When? He’s never mentioned you.” She probably shouldn’t have said that. It seemed to poke a sensitive nerve. If this was in fact her husband’s friend, she’d just said something incredibly rude.
“Thirteen years ago. He lived at Brier House with me. We were in the same fraternity. I played football there, but hurt my knee junior year and my grades weren’t enough to keep me in. I ended up leaving when I was twenty-one and finishing up at State back in Arizona.”
Libby supposed the slight lilt to his accent was what someone from Arizona would sound like. She eyed him critically. He looked about Mase’s age, maybe a few years younger. He definitely could have been an athlete. Even under his loose fitting jeans she could detect heavily muscled thighs.
He smiled at her kindly, exposing a mouth full of perfectly straight pearl white teeth. Wow, that must have been some popular fraternity. His smile softened his hazel eyes and upgraded him from attractive to gorgeous. A big hand ran through his dirty blonde hair causing it to stand on end and distract Libby.
“Look, Mrs. Davis, I assure you, your husband and I were friends, very good friends. I’ve been driving for days and I’m in need of a hotel and a bed. Do you know when a better time to stop by might be? I hate to be a pest, but I’m kind of just runnin’ on empty right now and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to see how he was doing after all these years.”
She sighed. The sense of unease she first felt in his presence faded slightly. His forbidding appearance was rendered merely unfamiliar and therefore somewhat less alarming. Slowly acknowledging her total fear may have been misplaced. He actually appeared to be quite genuine. “Okay, Mr. O’Malley—”
“Sean.”
“Sean,” she amended. “I’ll be honest. Mason isn’t home right now. Didn’t he return your call yesterday morning? I gave him your message.”
“He never called.”
She pursed her lips. Yesterday had been a complete disaster and that was probably why Mason neglected to tell her that this man was actually his friend from college. She wanted to believe him, and if what he said were true, Mason would expect her to be hospitable to his old friend. She didn’t want to disappoint her husband. Her teeth pressed into her lower lip as she considered her options.
“You say you’ve been driving a while?”
“Over fourteen hours. You see, my dad just passed away and I took off right after the funeral. I really don’t have anywhere to be at the moment and somehow wound up here. It only made sense to see if I could locate Mase.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss.”
“It’s really okay, but thank you.”
“Um, can you…can you excuse me for just one minute? I just need to check something. Just one minute please.” She held up her finger as she stepped back. When he nodded she shut the door and quietly latched the chain.
She turned and ran into the kitchen, her bare feet smacking quietly across the cool tile floor. Mason’s familiar words played through her mind. When we are unsure what to do, we ask for help, and our problems immediately feel smaller and easier to solve.
Picking the cordless phone up off the counter, she pressed speed dial one as she walked into the formal living room and spied on their visitor from behind the heavy satin drapes. Her finger ran through a slight drift of gray dust marring the windowpanes and she made a mental note that cleaning the windows once a week was not enough in the fall.
The phone rang and clicked over to voicemail. “Hello, you have reached the voicemail of Dr. Mason Stevens. I’m unable to take your call right now, but please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. If this is an emergency and you need to reach me, please contact Faith Baptist Hospital, extension two-two-nine.”
When the phone beeped Libby said, “Babe, it’s me. Um, there’s someone here for you and he says he’s an old friend from Duke. He seems to know a lot about you and I don’t think he’s lying. His name’s Sean O’Malley. He’s the man who called Friday night. Well, he’s kind of without a place to go. He drove here all the way from Arizona or somewhere out west and needs a place to stay. I don’t know what to do. He says his father just passed and I can’t help but feel sorry for him.  If he’s a friend of yours I think, under the circumstances, you’d want me to welcome him in our home.” She pressed her lips together and then mumbled, “God, I hope that’s what you would want.” She sighed. “I’m going to let him in and offer him something to eat. Please call me.”
When she returned to the door Sean was standing back and gazing toward their soffits. He appeared to be admiring the exterior of their home. It was really getting chilly out. She could have called the hospital, but if Mason wasn’t answering the phone it was because he was likely with a patient and that was more important than her needing approval.  Maybe.
“Um, Sean?”
“Yes.”
He looked at her with those piercing hazel eyes and her thoughts scattered like autumn leaves in the wake of a sudden gale. She shook her head and tried to focus. “Um, Mase is going to call back any minute. Would you like to come in? Could I fix you something to eat?”
He stilled for a moment as if considering if the offer was a good idea or not. “Uh, sure. Thank you, Mrs. Davis.”
“You can call me Libby.”
“Libby?”
“Yeah, it’s short for Liberty, like the bell.”
He laughed. “Cute. Thank you, Libby.”
She stepped back and let him enter their home with one last hope that she wasn’t making a mistake. As he stepped past her she looked up at his hulking size and admitted that if she was, she was a dead woman.

****

Sean entered the home. An ominous chill crested his shoulders as though he were crossing into a secret place he might never escape from unscathed. So many insecurities came rushing to the surface. His father’s taunting voice intruded on his calm. Stifling the unwanted memories, he focused on the little woman in front of him.
Mase’s wife wasn’t beastly. As a matter of fact, she was perhaps one of the most adorable females he ever laid eyes on.
She was a little thing and he had the unusual urge to lecture her for inviting a strange man, twice her size, into her home when Mase wasn’t around. What was she thinking? He agreed to come in only because he had the sudden ridiculous fear that some other beggar might come knocking and feed her a line of bullshit and trusting little Libby might end up inviting someone truly dangerous into her home. Oddly, something about her tapped into his protective instincts. This little girl needed someone to keep an eye on her.
The house entrance was ri-god-damn-diculous. He let out a slow whistle that echoed all the way up to the thirty-foot ceilings. It was homey, but also sort of like a museum. Nothing seemed out of place. Maybe the missus just finished cleaning.
“The kitchen’s this way,” she announced and he followed.
She only came up to his midsection, not even reaching his chest. Her feet were bare and her toes were painted pink. Girlie. She wore cute frayed daisy dukes and a sweater that hung precariously low over her one arm. Her bare shoulder hinted she had nothing underneath. Wild golden curls bounced with each step she took. Kudos to Mase for at least finding a woman with a bangin’ body. If he were going to switch teams, he clearly made out in the draft.
Sean had the impression of lots of white and open space. He was too busy sizing up his old friend’s wife to really take in the house. He was sure it was what American dreams were made of if Mase’s knack to adhere to pursuing a goal was still as sharp as it once was. If anything, his boy had an incredible ability for sticking to his guns and keeping his word. He promised one day he would have an easy life with a good partner and nice home. Sean had no doubt he had walked into just that.
Libby stopped and Sean plowed right into her. Nice. His hands reflexively grabbed her shoulders so he didn’t knock her down and hoped he didn’t trample her little feet “I’m so sorry.”
She quickly extricated herself from his grip and turned to face him. She took a step back and smiled, but he could tell he made her incredibly uncomfortable. Nice move, bonehead.
“I wasn’t looking where we were going. I hope I didn’t step on your feet.”
She looked down at her feet and back at him. Her hand held a cordless phone he hadn’t noticed earlier and she tapped it against her thigh nervously.
“Maybe I should just go,” he suggested. “Thank you for the hospitality, but maybe it would be best if you just tell Mase I stopped by—”
“No!” she said sharply, as if the idea of him leaving was more frightening than the idea of him staying. She softened. “I mean, no, please stay. My husband would want you to stay. Let me make you something to eat. Why don’t you have a seat at the counter?”
She seemed a bit jumpy, so he nodded and began to pull out one of the three stools tucked under the marble countertop. This kitchen was like something out of the rich and famous.
“Not that one!”
Sean froze. What just happened? He didn’t move, but looked at her from the corner of his eye for clarification. She took a deep breath and, in a more controlled voice, said, “Not that stool. That one is Mason’s. I think you would be happier on the third stool.”
She smiled as if the third stool was the best stool in the whole world and surely sitting there would bring him great rewards. Okaaaay. He didn’t give a shit if he sat on the fucking floor at this point.  He was so tired he could weep.
He sat and she began to pull items down from cabinets she could barely reach. More than once he caught himself admiring the creamy slice of her ass that peeked out past the hem of her shorts when she went up on her tiptoes. A gentleman would offer to help, but something had him hesitating. Plus, he liked watching her. Sean was a people person. He liked sitting back and learning people not by what they claimed they were about, but by how they actually acted.
She made fast work of making two turkey sandwiches for him. He found it curious the way she made them, each of them one step at a time, almost mechanically. Her lips silently counted: one, two, three, slices of turkey then did the same for the next.
She placed one piece of Swiss on top of the meat and used a knife to carefully cut off the two inches that hung over the edge. Doing the same to the other, she then lined the discarded pieces beside the bread and lined up two more slices of cheese. Her fingers squared them up and sliced the two pieces of cheese so that when placed with the overhanging pieces they would be exactly the same size as the slice below. He wondered why she didn’t just cut one identical piece to the lower one, or better yet, just throw it all on there.
As soon as the cheese spectacle was done she grabbed the remaining scraps of cheese that apparently didn’t fit and moved to the sink. She dropped them down the drain and turned the water on so hot steam began to rise from the stainless basin. What a waste. He would’ve eaten those pieces. He was about to tell her so, but was cut off from speaking when the roar of the garbage disposal clicked on. He was going to say something when it clicked off, but then she clicked it on again. And off. And on twice more. It was beginning to sound like Morse code and he forgot what he wanted to say.
She moved back to the sandwiches and made an X with mustard then placed a dot inside two of the triangular mustarded off sections and a line in the other two. She did the exact same thing to the other slice of bread.
He frowned at her. His mouth was hanging open in confusion by the time she held slices of lettuce at eye level and carefully tore away edges until they were as identical as they could get. Mason’s wife was definitely a weird bird.
She smiled when she finally seemed satisfied with the green leaves. The manicured roughage was strategically centered on the sandwich. The scraps went into the disposal. The same Morse code was applied for what seemed to be proper grinding.
She didn’t talk while she worked. She was so focused Sean didn’t know how she could have managed a conversation. It was like she was in another place and had forgotten he was watching her. The two sandwiches were sliced diagonally and organized like a pinwheel on a plate. She poured a glass of juice from the fridge for him and opened a drawer to retrieve a perfectly folded white linen napkin.
He sat back thinking she would hand the plate to him, but she turned and disappeared into some closet on the far wall. She returned with a glass jar filled with pretzel sticks. After twisting off the metal lid and retrieving four perfect pretzels and throwing away a broken one, she laid each stick between each sandwich slice.
Out of a bowl organized so nicely he mistook it for a decoration, she carefully selected an orange and placed it by the plate. She went to the closet and came back with another orange to replace the one she just removed. Her full lips silently counted out six oranges. Her tongue was a deep shade of pink and Sean blinked that transient thought away. Using a large kitchen knife she methodically cut the fruit into six even slices and placed them in a small glass bowl so they resembled a star or a flower or some shit. He wanted to tell her she didn’t have to go through all that trouble, but he was sort of interested to see what she would do next. She stepped back and eyed her creations and nodded, apparently satisfied.
He leaned back as Libby carried the plate, bowl, napkin, and cup over to where he sat and adjusted each item until the napkin was perfectly straight, the cup directly above it, the bowl exactly parallel from the cup to the left of the plate, and the plate turned so that the straight edges of the sandwiches formed a cross rather than an X.
“Bon appetit!”
He was sort of speechless. “Uh, thank you. It looks great.”
She beamed at him. Mase’s wife really had a beautiful face. She was more cute than glamorous, bright blue eyes with soft blonde lashes, pink full lips, and a pert little nose. She looked like an all American girl, but also like no one he’d ever seen before. He took a bite and shut his eyes as he groaned.
“This is delicious,” he said with a full mouth.
She nodded happily and began cleaning the counter where she’d made his dinner. He ate in silence and continued to watch. The cleanup was as much of a production as the preparation. She seemed to have a method for everything, the way she swept up the crumbs, the way she disposed of things, and washed the dishes. He winced when he noticed how red her hands were after washing the cutting board under steaming hot water, but she didn’t seem to notice. She also filled a spray bottle with piping hot water and used it to clean the counter after she bleached it. The clinical scent of disinfectant was so strong it permeated his nostrils and tainted the flavor of his lunch.
Afraid she’d burn her hands again, he offered to wash his own dishes, but that had the effect of a record skidding to a stop in the middle of a party. He realized immediately he’d overstepped and quickly muttered that she never mind. What the fuck kind of girl did Mase marry? Was this like some sort of Stepford shit?

Secret Cravings Five Favorite Things Contest

This weekend is where Secret Cravings Authors share their five favorite things. It's a bit hard to settle on just five things but I think I've managed it. I must say I felt a bit like Oprah when picking my favorite things but I doubt my choices will have the same reaction I've seen on her shows from the past. There definitely won't be any screaming, crying or joyous rapture as I announce them. Well unless you feel like it, and I'm only giving one thing away, not one of everything to everyone who visits the blog, but enough about my giveaway later.

Lets start with my favorite things list, these are in no particular order by the way. Deciding on five things was difficult enough, ordering them from one to five would be an impossibility.

1: Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey
2: Laying in bed on a cold rainy day reading a great book.
3: Bacon with...well, anything really, because bacon makes anything taste better :)
4: Han, cheese and tomato toasted sandwich.
5: Seducing a Cougar (my fourth novella in the Sydney Cougar Series with Secret Cravings Publishing).

For those of you who would like to win a PDF copy of Seducing a Cougar leave me a comment and visit the Secret Cravings Readers Group Page on Facebook. All the participating SCP authors will be listing their favorite things on the Facebook page as well as their blog over the weekend so drop on by and see what other great books are also up for grabs.

The competition runs from 15th December to midnight on the 16th December. In your comment why not tell me what some of your favorite things are. Good luck everyone.

Author Hot Seat - Lori King

The author hot seat specials are designed to help readers get to know some of today's popular and up and coming authors a little better. The questions are broken into four sections - About your writing, about you, fun stuff and finally. Some of the questions are easy, other may need a little more thought and some may cause our author friends to hesitate before answering. Still, they all answer.

Today we have Lori King in our author hot seat.  Let's see how Lori goes once we trun up the heat on the questions :)  Welcome to the Authors Hot Seat, Lori. Make yourself comfortable and we'll get started by asking some easy questions.

About your writing:

How did you get started as a writer?

I think I started writing as soon as I was big enough to hold a pencil, and realized I could create words with it. The first time I had something published I was fourteen and a poem I wrote was published in an anthology book put out by Poetry.com.

Why do you write?

Because I don’t know how not to. Even during the ten years I was having babies, and not focusing on my writing; I was still doing it. I was still jotting down poems and story ideas when I had time. It’s always been my way of expressing emotion and clearing my head.

Have you ever had a day you wanted to quit and never write again?

I recently had an encounter with a very mean individual, who related my writing to giving children porn, and the hurt she caused me personally made me wonder if I should walk away. I came to the conclusion that her remarks were made from jealousy, and that I had to learn to let criticism roll off of my back. Outside of that one day, I can’t remember any other time.

Do you feel lucky to be doing what you are doing?

Absolutely! Thousands of people dream every day of having a book published, and I’ve published two and have multiple others in the works. How could I not feel blessed?
Tell me how you got to where you are today?

A supportive family, and determination. I set a goal for myself and wouldn’t give up until I had reached it.

How do your family/spouses react to your work as an author? Do they know what you write?

My family knows what I write, and thankfully has always supported me. Even the ones who aren’t interested in reading erotic romance, have purchased books, and pimped my books for me to their friends who are. I’m very lucky.

About you:

What are you passionate about in life?

I’m passionate about grabbing life with both hands and pursuing your dreams even if they seem out of reach. As a mom with a fulltime job, I heard from many voices, that I would never be able to successfully write and publish books, but I proved them wrong. I’m still pushing myself to make new goals, and have bigger dreams. Life is too short not to.

If you had to give a thank-you speech at the Oscars, who would you thank and what would you say?

First: my husband, he has been my rock as well as a springboard for me. Second: my children, who constantly remind me to view things in a different way, and welcome the small joys in life. Third: the family members who have consistently voiced their support for my choices. Last: I would thank the publishers at Siren-Bookstrand for giving me a chance when I was an unknown in the industry. They saw something in me, and took a chance, and I can’t thank them enough.

What are the three most important life lessons you’ve learned that might make life easier for others?

#1: Jump with both feet. If you just dip your toe in, the water will seem too cold, and you won’t want to risk it.
#2 I am the me that I want to be, but there will always be ways to improve myself.

#3 Don’t let other peoples negativity deter me from the path I should be on.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. Whom would it be and why?

Jenn Leblanc, owner of www.studiosmexy.com she gets to take pics of some of the hottest men, to be used as book covers. I would LOVE to live in her world for a week.

What's the worst thing you did as a kid?

I was a good kid, but a TERRIBLE teenager. I was a partier that drank too much, had sex too much, snuck out, hated my parents, and anyone with authority over me. So there is no way I can pinpoint one thing I did that was the worst.

What do you do to have fun?

Besides reading erotic romance? I love to take to go camping with my kids and hubs. We all fish, swim, roast hot dogs and marshmallows…one of my favorite activities. Outside of those great weekends, I like to do DIY projects to my husband’s utter dismay. I’m always finding something crazy to try on Pinterest (I’m a pinning addict-look my boards up under Lori King).

Share a funny incident in your life.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty much a walking comedy act. I’ve always wondered if I live in a world like The Truman Show, where I’m actually in the middle of a daily sitcom. J I’ll pick something from those terrible high-school angst days. When I was a sophomore in high-school I was big into theater, and the group of kids I ran with decided late one night that we should all go down to the local cemetery to share a case of beer, and stir up some trouble. (That’s just what we did in a small town for fun.) The only problem was that we didn’t take into consideration that the cemetery is closed after dark, and someone spotted us and called the police. When we saw the cop car pulling up the gravel drive, we all scattered. Me, being the brainiac that I am dropped to the ground behind a large headstone frozen and praying that I wouldn’t get caught. Well, the officer saw me, of course, and came over to question me. Instead of answering his questions I decided to use my theater talents, and began to wail and cry loudly. I was kicking my feet and pounding my fists on the ground, yelling at the top of my lungs, “Why did you have to leave me! I love you, I can’t live without you!” After a couple seconds of this act, the officer yelled trying to get my attention, and then proceeded to ask me my name, etc. I told him that my father just died and I was missing him, so I came to the cemetery to pay my respects. The only problem was, that I hadn’t bothered to look at the headstone I was crying too. The name on the headstone was Judith McConnell, and she died in 1984. Needless to say the cops escorted me hope, and ticketed me for trespassing. Guess my acting skills needed work. LOL

 Fun Stuff:

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Tina Fey. I’m a HUGE fan of her comedy, and my life could only be a comedy, so she would be my pick.

If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be?

I would probably be a candy bar of some sort. I like making people feel better, and I have an enormous sweet tooth.

What is your favorite color- food- song- movie?

Color: Purple, Food: McDonalds cheeseburgers (yeah I know I’m still a 4yr old at heart), Song: Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce, Movie:

What's the funniest pick up line ever used on you?

“I like your shirt…it will look great on my bedroom floor.” I kid you not, and before you ask NO it didn’t work.

What's the one thing you can't live without?

Diet Dr. Pepper. Without it every morning I literally get the shakes. I’m completely addicted to the caffeine.

And finally:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:
-An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
-An old friend who once saved your life.
-The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
You can only fit one person in your car, who would you choose to offer a ride to?

OMG, what a hell of a choice. Honestly, I think I would get out of the car, letting my old friend and the old lady take it, while I stayed back to make wild kinky with the partner of my dreams in the rain! LOL

Lori has also kindly provided us an excerpt from her books Reflections of the Wolf. I hope you enjoy it.

Excerpt from Reflections of the Wolf:

“She’s okay, Liam. She’s just exhausted and overwhelmed. Give her some breathing room.” Tina could hear another man’s voice talking to Liam, but she couldn’t seem to make her eyes open to see who it was.

“Why did she pass out then?” Liam’s voice was annoyed, and she thought she heard him growl a bit. Damn that was sexy.

“Who knows why women faint? What were you guys talking about?” A third masculine voice spoke.

“Shit.” Liam muttered. “I told her she was my mate. I didn’t mean to scare her.”

Tina could just imagine the look on Liam’s face right now. She understood that Caroline believed in this whole mating thing, and that was fine for her life, but Tina wasn’t interested in a serious relationship. She had lived through her share of heartache when it came to men, and the pain just wasn’t worth it anymore.

She took a deep breath and forced her eyes open a crack. Instantly Liam and two other men were leaning over her. What the hell did they feed these men? They were enormous and gorgeous!

“Oh my God, I’ve died and gone to single women’s heaven,” she said, moaning and then blushing when the two new men laughed, and Liam frowned. “Who are you guys?”

“Hey, Sweet Tina, nice and easy now. How are you feeling?” Liam’s eyes held compassion, concern, and a glimmer of apprehension. A gentle tug of desire shot through her body at his soft endearment. He helped her sit up, scooting to sit behind her to brace her back against his chest. She was now between his outstretched thighs with her head tucked just under his chin and his arms around her protectively.

“Like a werewolf beat the shit out of me,” she grumbled, and all three men laughed. She felt Liam relax against her a little bit. He rested his hands on her flat tummy, and his thumbs rubbed tiny circle patterns through the T-shirt she wore. She could feel sparks shoot across her skin, and she grimaced in her mind. Her body sure wanted a relationship with him.

“Good. I was afraid you were just going to say fine or something silly like that.” His amusement rippled through her, making her smile.

“Hi, Tina. I’m Rafe Whetstone. This is my brother Ryley.” He indicated the beautiful godlike creature standing next to him. “We were quite impressed with your show of bravery in there, but you better take it easy for a bit. If your back gets worse, Liam will get you to the doctor. You hit that wall really hard when he threw you. And now with you passing out on us like that, it makes me wonder about your head. Is it hurting?” Rafe looked like a Viking warrior with golden-blond hair that was a little shaggy and electric-blue eyes that seemed to assess her in one lazy sweep. She shivered at the look of interest heating his gaze and instinctively pressed backward into Liam. His arms tightened around her possessively.

“Yes, but I took a baseball bat to the back of it a few hours ago, so it’s to be expected. I think my head hurts more now because it’s trying to process all of this…umm…this werewolf love story my best friend is apparently living.” She rubbed her temples trying to ease the ache. Liam’s strong hand moved to the base of her neck and started massaging the tension away. She groaned softly, and Ryley laughed loudly.

“Yeah, well, if Liam has his way, you will be living your own shortly. We have to go talk with Dev and Damon. Take care of your girl, Liam. I wouldn’t want to have to sweep her away from you and make her fall in love with me.” Ryley winked at Tina, and Liam growled a threat.

“Oh, pumpkin, that’s sweet, but I’m just not sure there is a man alive that’s qualified for that job,” she said, smiling sweetly at Ryley as he and the others laughed.

“Oh brother, you’re going to have your hands full with this little spitfire. Good luck!” Ryley teased Liam, and Tina’s eyes narrowed at him.

“He won’t have to worry about me shortly,” she grumbled, but the pressure increased from Liam’s hands, and a low moan escaped her throat. All three men ignored her implied threat, and it grated her nerves.

Ryley really was very sexy. He matched his brother in golden looks, but he kept his hair much longer. It brushed the tops of his shoulders, and his eyes were just a touch lighter than Rafe’s with flecks of green in them. It seemed all of the firemen of Battalion One were flirts with bodies built on Olympus. She would have to see about spending more time with Caroline if this was the company she was keeping.

She watched the two Viking warriors walked away and had to swallow hard at the sight of their tight butts. Wow, maybe I hit my head harder than I thought. She chided herself for drooling over those two men when the one that really scared her was holding her in his arms. Worrying now about what Ryley had said, she fidgeted in Liam’s grip. Liam couldn’t really believe that she was his mate, could he? Goose bumps prickled over her skin when Liam’s kissed the nape of her neck where he had been gently massaging.

“Are they family, too?” she asked Liam curiously.

Liam tensed before replying. “Yes, they are my adopted brothers. You can trust them. Well, you can trust them with your life, but Ryley won’t ever stop trying to get into your pants.”

She laughed out loud and felt a surge of feminine confidence. “I’m sure I will enjoy his attempts.”

Liam growled behind her, and she stilled in his arms. That was definitely a possessive growl if she had ever heard one. Turning to look back over her shoulder with narrowed eyes, she took in his jealous frown and huffed with irritation. After a few moments of glaring at each other in silence, he sighed and relaxed, and she couldn’t help but smile at her victory. She wouldn’t tolerate being told who to spend time with, no matter who it was.
